Subject: Tech Talk Substitute, for quick questions
This morning I downloaded a bunch of auto updates for Linux ubuntu, among them a / some Firefox related.
Since then I have found that if I have one tab open I cann ot just click baack to the other open tabs.
I seem to be able to RIGHT click on one that will not itself open, and have it open in a NEW tab.
Any ideas on how to get it back to how it was?
Does Linux have a system restore option?

have you restarted firefox since the update? I’ve found it can do some weird things if you don’t.
Restart the computer if that doesn’t work.

and even more annoying.
If I right click on a “favourite” and choose new window I just get a blank new window .. no searching or anything at all.
:(
I tried that, thinking I could bypass the previously mentioned problem.

Try disabling all of the plugins, maybe?

Now I feel suitably dumb … I hadn’t restarted the computer … I finally remembered to do so and now it is all fine.

Thread drift – still related to TT, though . . .
Is the TT Computers exercise (Computers for TT’ers, by TT’ers etc) still running?
The office my wife works in has two to three monitors (probably CRT), a keyboard and, possibly, some other ancillary equipment looking for a new home. Melbourne. SE suburbs.

Yes. I think it’s being done by some SA people.

OK. Thanks for that.
Bit far to deliver. Will have to look at other options.

There are some computer banks/recyclers in Melbourne, but I’ve heard even they aren’t too interested in CRTs anymore (especially 14-15” ones).

Unfortunately, I don’t know what size the monitors are. Bit sad, though, if nobody wants them. Hope it won’t come to putting them out for hard-rubbish collection.
I’ll investigate further.
Thanks cb88.

“>>KO et al,
I’ve just been talking to someone trying to use a ‘modem helper’ CD to install a telstra wireless modem onto a linux machine. It wants to know the com port of the usb modem, then talk to it with hyperterminal (or similar)
1) how does he find the com port in linux, and
2) is it telnet or some other protocol?<<
It’s a bit early to be asking questions don’t you think? Don’t be so heartless….we are all trying to deal with the shock of this loss.”

Is this the MF626 or something? It’d be much easier to disable the auto-play partition on a Windows machine. If that’s not possible, then GtkTerm will do anything Hyperterm could do.

If possible. If not, then GtkTerm will work. You in Darwin already?

I don’t remember him making a habit of coining world-famous neologisms with every post :)
Anyway, “selfie” might already have been around for a while before Hopey used it. His is just the oldest surviving internet usage yet found.
