Dinetta, hope this dust storm doesn’t mean your front yard is landing in our front yard today..

Horrid here on the Coast at present.

Good idea starting up this thread.

I wonder how many kids made it to school today???

Heard a lot of call outs for respiratory problems. This is understandable.

LOL Firestorm! I’m getting somebody else’s front yard ATM…according to a boffin, this is very nutririous stuff soilwise so I hope it settles here…I have just arrived in town and everything, traffic, pedestrians etc seem to be “slo-mo”…can’t see anything whipping up from the paddocks down the back (we butt onto an irrigation farm) but then they’ve been leaving their harvested crops in the ground the last couple of years…

Mr D said it’s been reported as the biggest (I guess they mean widespread) dust-storm since 2002 (I can remember that one! red moon and all) and it looks like being the biggest in 75 years…we are living in history people!

At about 17:30, we were driving home and MrD said Oh look at the moon…we checked the huge silvery disc hanging low in the western sky…and I said “but it was only new moon last friday”…so it was the sun…bigger than but just as silvery as the moon…the stars are sort of out so it is clearing…Brownsville is welcome to this…

pretty hard to imagine dust, hail, fires, earthquakes and flooding rains all in the one day – especially when we’re sliding on mud down south. weird.

Dinetta.. indeed, I do hope some of that rich soil landed on you.. in the nicest possible way, of course.

Got home last night and the three hounds were all shades of reddy/brown.. of course, they wouldn’t have the sense to actually sit the storm out inside the house….

The video from Broken Hill was astonishing… never seen anything like it..

Although not making less of anyone’s misfortune yesterday… My heart goes out to Toowoomba, we went up for the flower festival last Saturday, and although so very very dry, the town just looked lovely.. that wind yesterday probably ruined all the plantings for the rest of the week and the coming weekend.

getting thicker… this evening is looking quite messy out there.

Heard from contacts that the dust reached Cairns and the Atherton Tablelands just before lunch this morning… Local weather guys are suggesting that another dust front will hit Townsville on the weekend…

Well traditionally the woollen blankets don’t get packed away (in napthalene) until October, as traditionally the occasional cool night can still happen…it’s just that we’re getting a string of these cool nights…

We have been covered in a broad blanket of smoke this afternoon. The fire must be way north but the wind is carrying the smoke for miles.

The old lungs are getting a fair variety of different things to filter this week. Now they’re saying we could be back to dust by Sunday. Oh what joy!

http://www.bom.gov.au/info/thermal_stress/
Apparent temp indices Pom. The difference between what the temp is at the time, ans what it feels like.

We got the dust last night and all the windows were wide open because it was so hot. Consequently everything inside and outsie the house has a layer of red dust covering it. I will have to scrub the fly screens again.

Tonights minimum temp is down to 7c. Out come the winter jammies again. This is getting ridiculous.
