probably a lot is motivated by both tendency to focus (the mind tools) coupled with the need for distraction, which can be seen as having contradictory aspects.

I was wondering the other day how distressing things (of sound mostly) halt internal monologue, or challenge it, dysrupt it.

QI article, but it really doesn’t answer the question of what “drives” creativity (unless you interpret that question as what are the brain mechanisms that result in “creative” thought).

QI article, but it really doesn’t answer the question of what “drives” creativity (unless you interpret that question as what are the brain mechanisms that result in “creative” thought).

Short answer seems to be: a more fully and powerfully utilised brain.
