Thanks for that.
Definitely have a proper look later.
It might even get blogged.
Some written stuff on the same subject:

I like Tessellation wall art
3D tessellation is also a good storage method.

“Bach, Godel, Escher, the golden braid”, we all know it, the common factor is recursive looping.

Me too. The only two mosaics i’ve made have been non-periodic tessellations – Escher didn’t get that far.
The lecture in the original link refers to a BBC film, but doesn’t actually show it. I think this is it:

How annoying. That link says it is 1/2, and just stops half way through, but 2/2 is either a repeat of 1/2, or a video of his lecture.
If anyone finds a link to the real 2/2, please let us know.
Anyway, Part 1 was interesting.
I didn’t know that Escher got the inspiration for some of his work from work done by Penrose and his father.

TATE on Penrose stairs:

I guess I must have seen them called Penrose stairs before, but it didn’t sink in.

The first one is the link I was watching (first 15 mins) and the 2nd one seems to be an excerpt from the Penrose lecture in your original link.
