Tomorrow begins the final match. The Urn’s been retained but I’m sure the Australians would want a series win from here.
Good news is that 5 clear days are predicted.

The bad new is that I’m hosting a family & friends dinner for junior sprogs 16th. I won’t be serving dinner until 8 as that’s the earliest all can arrive and I suspect SWMBO will consider it bad form on my part if I have the TV on or am glued to a computer frantically updating cricifo. I’m a little pissed off that the England and Wales Cricket Board didn’t consider all this whilst deliberating upon the dates for this game.

I would be too. Can only hope the start is delayed by rain by a few hours.
.. OR.. find out if JS has any friend who is particularly keen on the cricket and make sure they are invited. Then it would be just plain hostworthy to have the cricket on so they can watch. Sometime you can get away with it if the sound is muted.

That actually worked for the last game – the rain I mean. I hardly missed a ball even though I had other annoying shit that I had to attend to.

When working at the Visitor Centre I have the cricket on one of the TVs as a service to the tourists.
How very thoughtful of you.

Honestly I’d like to see us do decently without Steve Smith having to save our arse every innings.
Warner learning to bat would be a start.

Yes, before you take their ashes home you need to crush your enemies and hear the lamentations of their old women like Geoff Boycott.

Mind you, if they are chasing 400, then “everyone but Smith” is going to somehow have to scrape together at least 180 runs or so. He can’t literally bat both ends. Be a good time for Warner to show up.

It was a great series with the ball mostly dominating as is often the case in England.
It’ll be a different story for the next series in Australia with drop in flat track pitches that have lost their individual characteristics.
I’ll definatly go and see Archer play if I get a chance, he should be better in 2 years if he stays fit but the pitchers in Australia might break his heart.
Most runs in an Ashes series

WR Hammond (ENG) 905 The Ashes (England in Australia), 1928/29

DG Bradman (AUS) 974 The Ashes (Australia in England), 1930
WR Hammond (ENG) 905 The Ashes (England in Australia), 1928/29
MA Taylor (AUS) 839 The Ashes (Australia in England), 1989
DG Bradman (AUS) 810 The Ashes (England in Australia), 1936/37
SPD Smith (AUS) 774 The Ashes (Australia in England), 2019No’ bad, considering he missed three innings to injury
Good pick up, they are comparing him to other players who have only played 4 tests, they are missing the innings he didn’t play.
I’m not sure what you mean.
Taylor, in this list, played 11 innings (in a six match series)
On the wireless they were rating him with other batsmen who only played 4 tests in a 5 test series in England, he was equal second with some Indian dude, the best was Vivian Richards. Those batsmen probably played 8 innings (but I’m not sure) he only played 7 innings as you alluded to.

Took your time, too, which is thoughtful.

Interesting read.
I would have had Pain instead of Bairstow, but neither of them are great keepers.
So Smudge in this series
Runs: 774; Average: 110.57; HS: 211; Centuries: 3; Fifties: 3
So a double century only counts as 1 century, yeah?
FUCK

Steve Smith got 98% of the vote at number 4. 2% of voters picked someone else. Someone else.
wanders off, muttering

They probably already had him at 3 on their own lists.
