On the news reports today is a story about those little miniature piglets. They are so cute & I know a lovely spot out the back where one would be so happy (spoiled rotten) and so well fed.

Hope you too get to see this feel good, “I want one” story……… and then go aaaawwwww

seems to be a bit of a disagreement as to how big these “miniature” pigs will eventually grow…

I’ve heard the Miniatures get quite large. And I concur with Bubba… Cavalier Spaniel anyone?

So my answer to genetically mutated pigs is Mmmm Bacon, Pork Chops, Ribs, and Ham!

It’s not a farm when all the animals are pets. LOL

I can remember my family (dad & brother) having picks as a kid and then as an adult. They were so much fun to visit.

We went halves with my uncle for a pig off my brother. Thing is on slaughter day, brother & uncle got pissed and the poor pig had to wait till the next day to meet his maker. Felt so sorry for that pig..but he tasted yummo.

Not yet….. feel awful about that too. Just been so busy and so tired at night….. so this weekend we’ll sit with our cats and watch it. Stay tuned for a report on it too.

from a newsletter I get…

The story in the last newsletter about micro pigs has a nastier side to it apparently. It might have more to do with diet than genetics. A pig producing friend forwarded these comments: “There is no such thing as miniature pigs in Australia because there are no pot bellied pigs. I had friends that were devastated because their miniature pig (very spoilt and well fed of course) grew as big as any of mine. Pigs are manipulated by diet all the time to take advantage of growth rates in the commercial market – it also works in opposite. If you don’t feed them properly they don’t grow. This whole mini pig thing started using runt piglets – those starved in the womb.”

I don’t think the original story was from Aus.

Even large whites are tiny when first born, my boar is going to weigh over 300kg when finished growing. These guys are all under 1/2 hour old, the one at the back has just been born.
