Subject: The gloves are off: 'predatory' climate deniers are a threat to our children

This is Tim Flannery predicting the deaths of billions of people, someone I have thought to be too optimistic about our chances to avoid climate change, but now has turned the corner and is telling the real tragedy of the situation.

>>In this age of rapidly melting glaciers, terrifying megafires and ever more puissant hurricanes, of acidifying and rising oceans, it is hard to believe that any further prod to climate action is needed.

But the reality is that we continue to live in a business-as-usual world. Our media is filled with enthusiastic announcements about new fossil fuel projects, or the unveiling of the latest fossil-fuelled supercar, as if there’s no relationship between such things and climate change.

In Australia, the disconnect among our political leaders on the deadly nature of fossil fuels is particularly breathtaking.

Each year the situation becomes more critical. In 2018, global emissions of greenhouse gases rose by 1.7 per cent while the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere jumped by 3.5 parts per million — the largest ever observed increase.

No climate report or warning, no political agreement nor technological innovation has altered the ever-upward trajectory of the pollution. This simple fact forces me to look back on my 20 years of climate activism as a colossal failure.<<

What makes you think that there is such a thing as a “climate denier”?

It is an interesting question. However, those who live under god may not believe much else at all.

Where was the phrase “climate denier” used?

It’s usually “climate change denier”, which encompasses not only those who deny that the climate is changing, who are admittedly a small and reducing group, but also all those who think we should not do anything to reduce GHG emissions if it results in an increase in short term visible costs.

The evidence that these people exist can be seen every day on the Internet and all other news media.

Indeed, the leader of this country is just such a person.

I bet a strong link exists between climate change denier and religious beliefs, could possibly even find they think god will sort it out.
Many people who have strong religious beliefs are actually the most dangerous, selfish and stupidest people around, care only about gods plan and not reality.

It also comes down to money as do most abhorrent acts we inflict on each other and everything else living and those who have most of it will whether climate change the best as they can buy their way out of most it, that’s assuming we don’t have WW3 and it all goes to shit.

I reckon it was this that pissed off Eric. One thing the Conversation’s stance. The ABC reporting it is what got to him.
