Reading this I wonder if you could get people with the ability to make a huge difference (world leaders who seemingly don’t care) stuff them into a rocket (if it explodes who cares) into goes into orbit they see the Earth and come back changed.

The VR aspect mentioned at the end is interesting as well, could it be used to make people more empathic especially if it was a full on VR of a recent warzone with all the nasties kept in so you see what a war is really like.
Honestly I don’t see how this could help. Also, sending someone into orbit generates something in the order of 100000 kg of GHG emissions.

Easier way.
Trump Islands (66°2′S 65°56′W) is a small group of islands lying 4 nautical miles (7 km) southwest of Dodman Island, off the west coast of Graham Land. The islands were discovered and named in 1934–37. See also List of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic islands.

Some work on this would help:
According to the W.H.O.’s latest annual assessment, there were an estimated 220 million cases of malaria last year, and about 435,000 deaths from the disease.

Good idea, send all world leaders into space, but their space shuttle fuel is based on how much environmental work they have done.
