You’re not even allowed to say “this place looks like a blackfeller’s camp” anymore…I’ve never seen a BF camp but to my mind it’s said in the same mindless outburst as “this place looks like a brothel”…

What about just “something smells fishy” for suspicious things?

I haven’t heard the first one, but “kill two birds with one stone” relates to achieving two results with one action – so maybe “two for the price of one” would be equivalent?

ok – i’m satisfied but the wife is being difficult.

Well I disbelieve him. you can catch the same rabbit with the same trap twice.. same as you can catch a crow in the same trap twice. or an raptor.. ditto.

I can see why.. she doesn’t like fishy.. but there are others.. “this looks like a bit of a slippery slope” for example..

two for the price of one is a hit I see.. that’s good because you can’t actually have your cake .. and eat it too.. ;)

she just like the similarity of ‘don’t upset the apple cart’ – which implies whoever is trying to ….is disturbing the status quo. in the old days it was always the blacks who were suspected of this…hard to explain.

the cake and the rabbit trap are similar…. two bites of the same cherry as it were.

How about “plant two seeds in the one hole”? This is renewal of life etc…and has close to the same meaning…maybe…hmmm….
