I found this very interesting.. From Wiki

The Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership is an annual prize awarded to a former African executive head of state or government.

Criteria

- former African Executive Head of State or Government
- left office in the last three years
- democratically elected
- served his/her constitutionally mandated term
- demonstrated exceptional leadership

With a US$5 million initial payment, plus $200,000 a year for life, the prize is believed to be the world’s largest, exceeding the $1.3m Nobel Peace Prize.

So it’s a prize created to recognise good leaders who serve their term and leave afterwards.. And it’s not a chump change prize either.

For 7 of the 12 years it’s been offered. No one has met the criteria for it to be awarded.

This is a surprise?

I’ve heard good things about Nigeria’s current leader. But that is in comparison to what has occurred before in Nigeria, which is not too difficult.

“- demonstrated exceptional leadership”

That’s a bit vague.

I would hope Ian Khama would get a look in this year (non-terrible Botswana president)
