I thought so too, but have discovered all of a sudden that I’m prepared to make exceptions.
What a particularly nasty piece of work he was, with his taunting grinning during his trial. Mr Speedy and I happened to be at Hyde Park on the day he was in court, and actually saw the media and the commotion outside.
I am glad he is gone already, and surprised he survived in gaol as long as he did, especially with the comment the NSW Corrections Minister made today about him rotting in hell.

Why is he hated so much more than other serial killers?

Probably because his crimes were so heinous and the fact that he had never shown any remorse or revealed the whereabouts of other victims remains thus torturing their families forever. (And he is a home grown aussie product)

Yes, the remorse thing is probably it.
It is.
Also, when I was younger I used to go with my family to Belanglo regularly. The place has a stigma now which it never deserved.

This bloke was mz Tamb’s next door neighbour.
ON THIS DAY – December 17, 1965
Keith Ryrie was charged in the Melbourne City Court with having murdered Maureen Patricia Ferrari, 18, at Holmesglen. Ryrie was charged in the City Court also for having murdered Rhonda Margaret Irwin, 5, at Burnley the week before.
His papers were marked “Never to be released”

People forget which is why Port Arthur is still a good tourist place.
My niece decided to get married there (I had reservations) but I went down for the wedding, it turned out great and the massacre was never mentioned.

I think the memorial is beautiful and tastefully done.. and out of the way enough to be avoidable if you wanted to
I read this morning that his body will be taken to the Coroner, because the Coroner investigates all deaths in custody. Everyone knows Milat died from cancer, why waste resources on using Coronial services?

How do we know he died from cancer rather than being poisoned while in care?

Belangalo. For four days the cops thought me son and I were needed to help them with their inquiries about that. We had stopped at the place where my grandparents had a farm just south of Tallong. The place was for sale so I figured no one would mind if I showed my son where his great grandparents lived. Some crazy in a P76 ute came flying up from down the paddock with a shotgun bouncing on the back window shelf. Screaming aabbuse at us. I realised that it was because we had stepped over a klow electric fence because as we stepped back over it, he changd direction and went down to take the number of our car. All the while saying that he had contacts in Asio or summat. The next day the police visited mrs rb at work and asked her if these two disreputable characters should be using her car. Four days they asked her to reveal our location because they desperately wanted to interview us about our proximity to Belangalo. It was only after I told mrs rb to tell them to ask the Mayor of Tallong who was my mothers cousin about the incident because I’d reported it to him straight after it had happened.
The cop laughed and said, this will be a good tale at the pub after work and dropped the whole thing.

Mostly (I suspect), they don’t.

I agree wholeheartedly. The fact that he didn’t make further statements (either confirming or denying other murders) indicates that he wanted people to continue talking about him, even after his death. I really do not want to be manipulated into talking about him.
For that reason, the only other comment I’ve made in this thread is not about him. Having said this, I won’t contribute further to his quest.

Same goes for Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gary, Ed Gein et al.
the only way we can study crime is to study and discuss the criminals and their actions. Look into their motivations and histories and try to find indicators that align with other criminal behaviour. You might want to see it as giving someone attention, but it’s vitally important to be aware of certain actions so we can introduce protective behaviours rather than just say “bad dude, lets ignore him’ and stick our head in the sand waiting to be victimised again.
it’s salacious and wins eyeballs. .that’s the only reason it’s so popularised..
it’s not about understanding it.. and the family of the victims are suffering all over again while the media salivates.

True.
These people present abnormal behaviours so prevention before they act would be a good direction to purse.

Finding these people is a challenge, if they can be found at a younger age, then there is better hope of rehabilitation of some kind.
Primary school level.
In primary schools, perhaps one way to spot them is monitor troublesome students who are always being put in timeout, maybe trolls behave in certain ways within a group?
This involves child psychology and behaviours.
I’m not a child psychologist.
My thinking is Ivan would have been showing some negative behaviours at a younger age. ?
Maybe even showing cruelty to animals?
