My friend Kate and I have an upcoming exhibition. It’s going to be a bit posh. We need a title and we like punny. In the past we have had two exhibitions called ‘Runs With Scissors.’ We want a new exhibition hook but it could be one that expands on that.

We are both etchers. We both deal with ‘place.’ I have played with ‘ground’ a lot. It is the stuff put out on a plate before etching. It is a term for what the picturing happens on and it means landscape. I’ve done Common Ground, Familiar Ground and Ground works. I’ve also used the term ‘Picturing’ a bit.

Puns about printmaking are good but they have mostly already been used. Impressions has been used enough to be daggy.

Kate is doing a lot of leafy works and I am about to some more leafy works. She does a lot of European landscapes. She does a bit of self portraiture.

I am cleaning plates and doing that prep. If I have a title I will be able to work towards it. I prefer to title up first rather than later.

Here’s a couple of Kate’s latests…

‘Happy accidents’ is a print term for when everything you planned goes wrong but it is still a good print.

If that’s not posh enough, you could do it in French: Jours de nos Feuilles

I did an exhibition once that I called ‘Landskipping.’ (landscape coming from dutch landskip.) I really liked it but only a few academics got it.
