Now that Summer is here and a lot of my spring bulbs have died, the garden is looking patchy in area’s.
Is there a quick reference somewhere that i can use to be able to buy B,T and R’s that will give all year round colour.
In other words mix the bulbs etc etc and plant them in the one spot so that something is always growing there.

stephen ryan from gardening australia is doing that at his mt macedon property all the time. i imagine that most gardeners accumulate their stock of tubers and divide them each year. there are daylilly specialists etc – so i think you just have to sus out the local sellers.

alternatively you could sow Spring/Summer annuals that self seed where your bulbs are, so they are on show when the bulbs are dormant and vice versa.

I wish! Our bulb bed looks woeful but th Calla lilys are just starting to shoot. I don’t think it’s possible to have bulbs etc flowering all year round. The only thing I can come up with (I’ve been thinking about this for a while)is to integrate other types of plants that will do their thing for the other times of the year. Even if it’s only to hide the eyesore.

chuck a match in it and burn it then water it. The misnomer here is “died”. Bulbs etc., are not dead.. they are just lying dormant awaiting stimulus.

Yes .. you can have Helichrysm or other such dry annuals .. grow on top of many bulbs.

I would often grow my bulbs under Roses, so that the Roses would flower in the warmer months and the bulbs in those moments when the roses were pruned.

and annuals were often used to cover earth between bulbs…
