I’ve never had such tall tomato plants, and with the temperatures soaring upwards tomorrow I was worried about them getting burnt.
Fortunately Mr O40 is 6’4”, and he helped me build this shadehouse :=)

they are certainly looking healthy there o40.

I think I string some old sheets over the vege patch to protect the seedlings there tomorrow.

Ummmm. It was a bed with a couple of old bushes in it, a waste of space. So I cleared it and chucked in anything I could find. Old worm castings in a slurry (Pooh), compost , B&B, more worm juice, more compost. I left it to marinate while the toms got big enough to be planted out. They liked the formula I think!

Obviously :D My worm farms are back to full production and the toms will get some w’wee in a couple days.

I’ve covered my toms rhubarb raspberries and silverbeet seedlings, I wont have time in the morn as I’m out early.

These tomatoes are out of control! They are so tall now they’ve gone past the tallest stakes I have and are travelling back down again. I took the growing tips out of them ages ago, but they just make new ones and keep going up. They’re too high for the shadecloth roof now. I keep lifting branches up and tying them to whatever I can find. HELP! LOL! I’ve had a few ripe ones of the smaller varieties and very nice too.
Now I find I’m allergic to the plants, my hands and arms and feet where they have touched are SO itchy!

Do what I do as soon they out-grow the stake .. let them ‘em grow horizontally

That’s what they are mostly doing, Col. Next year I’ll trim off the side shoots a bit too, they are a jungle and the air flow is restricted which begs for fungal problems.

looks like you’ll need gloves, coveralls and a bandanna for your next attack on the toms!
