Subject: Asparagus for dummies

Well I’ve been back thru the posts and couldn’t find any topic for Asparagus…well as far back as April.
I put in some crowns that are approx 18 months old and they’re sprouting like crazy. But I’m not sure what I should be doing with it.
Can anyone give me some advice for this time of year…do I just let it sprout away or should I be cutting it back??
Anything you can tell me will be much appreciated :)

Okay, let me see, the spears when you popped them in were 18 months old???

If they are sprouting like crazy:) Congrats they are FAB happy:D

You can’t harvest them for 2 years Muschee…… sorry to be the barer of bad news……..

Let them do “their thing” and early next winter they’ll die back and you can cut them at ground level.

Feed them with rotten manure on top and they’ll love you for it.

In 2 years you can harvest say a couple of spears from each crown and then the following year….you can harvest in spring for about 2 months and then let the other spears grow as when they die back…. they feed the crowns.

These crowns will feed you for about 30 years:D

Youngest son has been accepted into his second choice course at TAFE, Diploma of Music Industry (Technical Production).
We’re still hoping he gets into his first choice but it’s great knowing he has something to fall back on. :)

We should know this week.

Not the bearer of bad news Lucky :) I know I will have to wait, but wasn’t sure what to do in the meantime…..I too have broken off a tip just to get a taste.
Thanks for advice

How many crowns do you think I should have for just the two of us?
