how old were you when you had your last thought that wasn’t influenced by money in some way

doesn’t matter who you are, a judge, a policeman, a school teacher, whatever, if you earn or want for money or have any, it influences to some extent how you think, what you think, and what you do, your behavior

it’s sought for its conversion qualities, a wonderful empowering device for instrumental desires

if there was an essential class of thought detached from such a thing, and I can’t imagine what that would look like, but if there was, where would I look to find it, and would I recognize it

All the time, now that I’ve realised that my life will end before my money runs out.

I find myself surprised when I do think about money, say only a couple of times a day when I may be thinking about saving electricity, saving water, shopping, travel, missy, new car, landscaping or undersea mining. mrs m thinks about money more, mostly because she runs her own business from home.

Well, the forum for starters. Not much discussion of the cost of living in the threads.

About 68 years and 10 months old.

Sure money influences much of what we do, but I’d say that about 80-90% of my thoughts are not influenced by money in any way.

No.

Indeed, it would be somewhat paradoxical to review all thoughts for money content to ensure that your thinking was not affected by money. :)

My friends keep telling me, I should think of the money. They worry that I’ll be left sleeping under newspapers.

you’re too quick for me today, just slipped to the side there, no goal for me

there is this aspect of life though, you know your possessions have a value, if you were to lose whatever, break it, have it stolen, you’d need part with money to replace it. You may even have insurance, still that’s to save you some money, if bad luck visits you, your insurer will right the situation with a payment. So there’s value in your possessions, values often defines with a number, in dollars, when it needs be

you also avoid being sued every day, variously, and avoid speeding fines, all sorts of fines

your christmas list may be shorter than it otherwise could be, to save money. Your friend list could be shorter than it may otherwise be, to save the expense if regular funerals, traveling to them etc, loss of work income

you may have a small garden to save the expense of water, you may walk in your small garden, view it regularly, a garden shrunk or kept small by the expense of water

If you don’t speed or drink drive, are always doing 40 through any school zone any time. This may simply be because you are a good driver. May have nothing to do with fear of spending money on fines.
Whatever size garden, you grow it because you want it and would be more worried about having enough water than how much it costs.

as I mentioned earlier, money has special conversion qualities, exchange qualities, and i’d add a large part of the magic operates inside minds, in the potential to satisfy a range of instrumental desires, like you do this task (job), get paid for it, and can purchase any number of things with the money. The thing is though, it lends to a range of conversion possibilities, mechanisms that aren’t necessary tightlydefined, it’s a diffuse mechanism involving potential that permeate a lot of mental activity, you will the formation of instrumental desires, so it becomes very much an aspect of will, what can be willed into existence

i’d expect people, peoples’ behavior, to generalize, involves avoiding incurring unnecessary cost or expenses, all the time, part of the economy of day to day life, moment to moment, it’s unavoidable, if you want to eat properly, afford food reliably, and other things

I doubt i’ve had a thought that wasn’t influences by money (even notions of, related, or involving) since before I started school

the idea of rich got into my head quite young, for example

coins and notes seemed really interesting at a young age, special

I’d like to believe some thought was not influenced by economy (and money by association), that it wasn’t all referenced to avoiding money costs, but seriously I have my doubts

it could be argued money is involved in group homeostasis, performs a reliable function of representing value. Even if you forget about it for a moment, completely forget about it reliably doing that, it reliably continues to do it, and that it does allows you to do other things, so it doesn’t take over your mind

it’s there all the time, involved in group homeostasis, not so different to the sugar you burn to maintain body temperature, and other functions

Well, the forum for starters. Not much discussion of the cost of living in the threads.

Correct, nothing like that. Take libellous for example, I’d be afraid of being bashed, not sued. Ditto car accidents. Nothing in the house is valuable, of sentimental value only.

i’ll ignore the cashless welfare card thread, and that the forum is inexpensive entertainment, to make that work
