Subject: We will miss our Artemis

I know it’s been mentioned here, but I think it deserves it’s own place.

I know I’ll sadly miss one of our Forum Mummies (AKA Aunty Shell) who I know thought the world of all of us.

A note from family.

Dear all,

We’re sorry to have to tell you that our mother passed away last week on Monday the 13th January 2020. As many of you are no doubt aware our mother was diagnosed with motor neuron disease in August 2019. This disease was exceedingly cruel to someone who had previously been so full of energy, so we bring you this news with mixed emotions: incredible sadness at her departure from our lives, yet hope that she has found peace from her suffering and frustration.

We’re deeply grateful for the love and support that we’ve received from friends and family. The outpouring has been humbling and overwhelming. Though perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised as our mother was an inspiration and mentor to so many, not least her children. Alongside her incredible vitality, she also carried a tremendous intelligence, matched with deep compassion, incredible generosity, and seemingly endless curiosity; with considerable affection and fascination for the natural world.

For those who are able to attend we would like to invite you to remember the adventures, the joy, and her well-led life at her funeral. For details, and to RSVP, please follow this link

Evening all

I am still a little over whelmed by the news :’(

I did have the good fortune to have met Shell, up here in Cairns while she was here for a Vet’s conference a few years ago.

It was as though I had known her for years, so easy to chat with. We had a couple of meals together and since then we have had a few mini chats via fb.

A genuinely lovely person.

Peoples from the past.

Shell was a saintly sort of poster. It’s a cruel fate.

I am very sad that I didn’t get to meet Shell in person. I somehow expected that at some point I would win lotto and get to tour Australia and have a minipud with the regulars.

She was an exceedingly pleasant person with a very interesting past that I wanted to talk to about everything.

Now it’s too late.

Thank you Artemis for spreading your knowledge and kindness.

We love you.

I’m broken hearted that Shell has gone too soon.
So many happy memories of an amazingly talented yet such a modest and giving woman.

My Evil Twin Beryl, inviting the forum mummies to Shell’s lovely harbourside home for one of the best positions for the NYE fireworks, she graciously let us have a memorable night with her.
A bushwalk on a 40 degree day, on her way home she stopped to buy honey from a farmer, and gave him a lively talk on why he should not have his birds in a cage without shade.
Great trivia nights.
Her enthusiasm for beauty, for knowledge, for sharing, for caring. Her encouragement for the world to be better. Her belief that the world could be better, her acceptance that it isn’t.

So grateful to have known her.

She was, wasn’t she.
She would have hated seeing the current crisis unfold. I can hear her voice now, calling for the incompetents to get out of the way of real action.
