ntitled Sleep, Australia, Sleep, Kelly says the song is both “a lament in the form of a lullaby” and “a critique of the widespread attitude among humans that we are the most important life form on the planet”.
Kelly told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age that he believed we have “reached a tipping point where this attitude is doing terrible harm to all life on earth. I hope the song doesn’t come true but some of it already has.”
The lyrics of the song, published exclusively ahead of its release on Wednesday, talk of a country that is sleeping its way towards massive destruction of the planet and its species: “Our children might know them but their children will not. We won’t know ‘til it’s gone all the glory we’ve got.”

SLEEP, AUSTRALIA, SLEEP
Sleep, Australia, sleep
The night is on the creep
Shut out the noise all around
Sleep, Australia, sleep
And dream of counting sheep
Jumping in fields coloured brown
Who’ll rock the cradle and cry?
Who’ll rock the cradle and cry?
Sleep, Australia, sleep
As off the cliff the kingdoms leap
Count them as they say goodbye
Count down the little things
The insects and birds
Count down the bigger things
The flocks and the herds
Count down our rivers
Our pastures and trees
But there’s no need to hurry
Oh, sleep now, don’t worry
‘Coz it’s only a matter of degrees
Fog, Australia, fog
Just like the boiling frog
As we go we won’t feel a thing
Who’ll rock the cradle and cry?
Who’ll rock the cradle and cry?
Sleep, my country, sleep
As off the cliff the kingdoms leap
Count them as they pass on by
Our children might know them
But their children will not
We won’t know ‘til it’s gone
All the glory we’ve got
But there are more wonders coming
All new kinds of shows
With acid seas rising
To kiss coastal mountains
Big cyclones pounding
And fireballs devouring
And we’ll lose track of counting
As the corpses keep mounting
But that’s just the way this old world goes
Sleep, my country, sleep
As we sow so shall we reap
Who’ll rock the cradle and cry?

Paul Kelly Talks Climate Inaction In New Song ‘Sleep Australia Sleep’
http://www.noise11.com/news/paul-kelly-talks-climate-inaction-in-new-song-sleep-australia-sleep-20200205
Paul Kelly’s latest song ‘Sleep Australia Sleep’ addresses the environmental incompetence of the #ScottyfromMarketing government.
Kelly explains, “’Sleep, Australia, Sleep’ is a lament in the form of a lullaby. Paradoxically, it can also be heard as a wake up call – a critique of the widespread attitude amongst humans that we are the most important life form on the planet. I believe we’ve reached a tipping point now where this attitude is doing terrible harm to all life on earth. I hope the song doesn’t come true but some of it already has.”
The lyrics not only describes where Australia is now but where Morrison’s incompetence and environmental terrorism is yet to take us.
Watch Paul Kelly perform this new Australian anthem with Pub Choir.

I’ll only click that link is it involves the writers of that song being put to a pure.
Stupid spell-checker! What is the fucking point of a spell-checker that you can’t disable. I might abandon Chrome on this issue alone…

I use Chrome and it certainly doesn’t do any autocorrections for me. Maybe you just need to revise your settings.

How did we get to here? How did it all turn out so depressing? In the late 60s/70s we were all about discovery and AWA. If we weren’t going to die in a nuclear fuck up we were certainly going to burn a bra and chuck a moratorium march.

I really don’t know how we got to here. (I can’t decipher AWA, – apart from the radio manufacturer). But it seems to have happened all over the world. Recently. In Sri Lanka, it’s hard-right Buddhists. Go figure.
I still have my moratorium badges…

Yes. Radios and TVs. We sold it.
And it does seem to be happening across the world. But not in Canada or NZ.

Preserving a livable environment is not a left/right issue.
State MP Shane Knuth, who represents the rural communities of Innisfail, Tully and the Atherton Tableland in north Queensland, has backed power development in his electorate.
He said the comments from Senator Canavan showed a disappointing attitude to north Queensland’s proposed and existing renewable energy projects.
“I just feel that’s nonsense,” Mr Knuth said.
Knuth is an ex-National, now Katter member.
