I’m thinking of joining U3A sculpture classes. Wide range of materials to work with.

Suppose you had free reign to sculpt anything with any material (you could afford). What material and subject would you choose?

eg. I might sculpt interpenetrating 4-D polyhedra as wireframe models.
Or I could sculpt something useful, like improve the tenor viola I made mostly out of polyester reinforced polyester.

IF I was let loose in the UTas Sculpture dept for a semester or two I be hogging the laser cutter.

Okay. I am going to lie down… so I get tired… so I will sleep before the dawn god comes.

Hadn’t thought of that. To cut what? A car out of sheet metal?

Nice. I have uses for both aluminium (ideal material for new bridge of viola) … and perspex. See-through 4-D solids. Cases for mounting electronics.

PS. I’d like to see a car made out of perspex.

Oh, that’s lovely.

I suppose I could sculpt scientific equipment for my ideal science laboratory.

Perhaps sculpt:

A particle accelerator
A 20 tonne press
An atomic force microscope
A ROV
A drug manufacturing laboratory
A DNA sequencing robot
A spectroscope
A gas chromatograph
Millican oil drop experiment
A microfabrication rig

I once made an accurate set of scales (0.1g to 250g) using cardboard, plastic bag, plumb bob and protractor.

I made a temporary windowed fish tank out of a plastic bag and an icecream container once.

Thank you. :-))
The best part of that set of scales was that it was completely portable, didn’t require a flat surface to sit on. I made it for weighing hailstones in the field. The worst part was that you needed either a calculator or set of tables to read off the weight.

Everybody does that. Pretty though. https://www.google.com/search?q=fractal+sculpture

I wonder if there’s an animal out there that has never been sculpted. Rakali perhaps, but that’s sort of a bit rodentish. Wobbegong?

One thing I tried to sculpt earlier, unsuccessfully in Super Sculpey, was glasses frames.

Sculpture class is full. Darn
The only other class I want to take is philosophy for daily living. Also full.

Yes, it is awesome. But do you know how many invertebrates died to make this?
