I have saved these posts and in case of any “accident” they will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
Boris, I won’t mess with your brakes. I’ll do something way worse than that. I’ll reset all your favourite radio stations to default & then move the drivers seat forward & reset your mirrors. ;-)

I have to go. Doug’s Bobcat has no oil pressure… Something I can’t fix over the phone…. I feel a trip to Bindoon will soon be coming on. :-(
Thank goodness. He stopped it before it seized or shit itself in a major way. Later in this week I get to do a failure analysis as to why. I love this bit. ;-)

Nah, they shit me.
Not sure yet, MV. However, it went from good oil pressure to near zero very quickly without the usual slap or knock. I don’t like to think it’s going to be main or big end failure, but more like oil pump or oil pump drive failure…. We shall see…. As I said. I love this bit. ;-)

Count me in. Not sure when or for how long I’ll be there. Perhaps a fortnight or longer.
Not sure how to contact anyone when I get there.

King Park and Pinnacles – definitely :-)
Looking at the bird book, there isn’t much in Perth that I couldn’t see more easily in Syd-Mel. Apart from western variants of familiar eastern birds?
What about wildlife sanctuaries: Zoo, Karakamia, Caversham, Paruna, Possum Valley, Eric Singleton, Northern Wildlife rescue? Worth a visit?
Where are these unique SW WA plants I keep hearing about?
South of Perth, Peel Inlet and surrounds looks worth a look see.
In Perth suburbs, I’d be looking for freshwater lakes and swamps and sewage treatment places. Perhaps Big Carine swamp, Lake Leschenaultia, Lake Gwelup, Churchlands (Herdsman), Floreat, Heirisson Island, Canning River Regional Park, Manning Lake, Murdoch, Banjup, Champion Lakes, Market Garden Swamps, Canning Vale? Any of those to visit or avoid?
Any good places near Perth for pelicans?
Best Perth place for wild Western Greys?
Any stinky places near the centre of Perth that might attract stink-loving insects?

I am a docent (tour guide) at the Perth zoo, so I would always say that it is worth a visit.. there is a wetlands area with birds, a walk through Avery with birds of the SW and another aviary with parrots and some other bird types.. we also have the cockatoos in the Australian section.
Where are these unique SW WA plants I keep hearing about?

In the South West.. might be worth a visit but probably not as spectacular now as in spring. Kings Park has a variety of species as does the Zoo. Kings Park offers tours afaik.

Lake Lechenaultia is about an hours drive east of Perth .. might be worth a visit..Swan River between Canning Bridge and Mt Henry Bridge, is where I kayak and there are a number of bird species there.. a lot of the swampy areas in Perth are protected for the turtles, but then I don’t actually seek out swamp walking, so I might be wrong wrt access.

this is a fair statement.. Perth City has an information centre that will probably be able to provide you with heaps of ways to go see what you want to.
Kings Park does tours too.. though I can’t comment on the quality of them, they seem to be well informed.

My BiL does bird-watching tours. Not usally in the Perth region though, more to the south and east. He specialises in birding tours for very serious bird watchers. Most of his clients are booked months in advance though. However I’m sure there’s plenty of others that do general nature tours if you let them know what you’re into – plants, birds, reptiles, kangaroos etc

Any good rubbish tips that attract wildlife? Only those that attract wildlife, which are becoming more difficult to find.
Almost all Melbourne’s excitement is indoors – pay per view; which is against my religion, Scottish.
As for Perth, the following object is interesting. From a Civil Engineering point of view my immediate reaction is “is that even possible?”

That’s the newest footbridge, Matagarup. I heard that in time they will do the bridge climb tours there, but I don’t think they are available yet..
If you don’t mind a stroll, there’s a nice walk between that bridge and The Narrows that will take you along the foreshore of both the city and south Perth.
Look online for walking tours around Perth. I know they are available for Sydney and Melbourne.

As for Segway, can you say “chicken”, I can. I wonder if there are bikes for hire, that may be easier than trying to find buses.

I’ll pick up something on walking tours at tourist info. And a reasonable inner city map.
What’s the geology of Perth? Is it all sand dunes between the long line of lakes and the coast?
Looking up where to find bird species in Perth, from birdata. The large swampy lakes: Herdsman, Monger, Claremont, North, Bibra, Yangebup. Coastal: South shore of the Swan estuary, Woodman Point, Cape Peron. And places like King Park, Riverside Gardens, Noranda, and up on the ranges.

Valley of the Giants and Tree Top Walk Day Tour from Perth
I love treetop walks. It’s great to look down on the trees and see how they move from above.
We discovered something odd about heights when we did the WA treetop walk. I loved it. Despite the walk being seethrough and swaying. Mr buffy hated it. But when we are near cliffs and at lookouts, I will not go near the edge. Mr buffy will go to the railing. Weird. I just feel that I might like to find out what it’s like to jump off a cliff. But I have no inclination to jump off a treetop walk.

Are you still coming south to the windy rock?
Yes
But you won’t be traversing the buttongrass plains and mountain rock scree by foot.

There’s a very strong chance we’d have two spare bedrooms (and possibly three) by then, if you wanted to come hang on the peninsula, Daz.

Yes. Not until I’ve exhausted the places I can get to by public transport. Perhaps the final week of the three weeks.

Finally found a good single page public transport overview map for Perth. This one.
If I do the full 3 1/2 hour loop on the 998 bus – is it free?

it’s not free.. the only ones that are free are the CAT’s that go around the city. I think I may have a spare Transperth card you can borrow if you add some coin to it.. it makes it easier and is cheaper than paying cash.

Please Date and time for the pud? Not the 1st or the 3rd of March. Bus 220 or 284.

Thanks for the offer! Ta. Yes. I think they’d suspect me of foul play if I got on the bus at Fremantle and got off the same bus at the same location 3 1/2 hours later. I looked into Transperth card concessions but the information is doubly contradictory about interstate seniors, so I’ll get one without concession.
dunno as yet. the whole idea behind this pud is that my sister and niece are coming over for a few days and i thought it would be nice to combine me seeing them with a pud. It may not be possible, though you lot can have a pud without me. Seeing my family takes precedence. This was mentioned in the OP.

Defs get a new battery for your phone. Go to one of those phone kiosks in a shopping centre. Depending on your phone, it would only cost ~ $50ish. You don’t want to be without a phone in a city where you don’t know anyone or where you are.

The Mister Minute style kiosks camera batteries, but it’s much cheaper to get those somewhere else, like Woolworths or a $2 shop.
There’s a store not to far from here called “battery world” that I’ll try today.
The phone is Samsung about ten years old, no touch screen. To type “hello” it’s “44 33 555 555 666” on the keypad.
Could get a completely new unlocked phone for $79 at officeworks.

On my phone (a $25 Android phone from Colesworth), there’s a white circle with six black dots on it. I press that. That takes me to the widgets page. Press and hold the widget you want, and that installs it on the home page.
