Cheap clothing and cheap products are contributing to human caused global warming.

Shoes that last 3 months, cheap clothing that rubs, 40 dollar fans or 30 dollar heaters that start vibrating loud after 6 months etc

Cheap clothing and cheap products which need to be replaced on an ongoing basis are all contributing to dragging resources from the environment in an unsustainable way.

These companies should be fined millions of dollars until they change their economic philosophy.

Cheap products also exploit the poor.

Over half the planet is poor.

No one discusses it much.

I have bought $14 fans. I have a $20 fan that has lasted more than 15 years. And I use it a lot.

Fans are cheaper to buy and run than air conditioners, and use far far less electricity.

I think your assertion around fans breaks down.

What about the fans that do break down after 3 months ?

There are different companies that make different products at different qualities.

You have remedies in consumer law. They come with a 12 month warranty, by law. So take it up with the place you bought it from.

Its a global problem, much bigger then people think.

Those remedies are weak with products made in other countries.

Poor people cannot afford expensive products and are being financially exploited because of it.

Exactly. They fine people for speeding, to stop them from speeding. They fine people dropping litter to stop them from littering. If you fine people for being poor, that’ll stop them from being poor.

1 Federal and State Governments start an awareness campaign that companies will be fined for products made to poor standards and any shipping confiscated. (just like illegal drugs)
2 Create sanctions for companies in countries that fail to comply.

That should wake them up a bit.

We could put them in the fridge until they go dormant, and then in the freezer for 24 hours. This is what the RSPCA recommends.

governments love products that don’t last

if i buy a 100 dollar box that lasts 20 – 50 years i only pay 10 dollars to the government in tax

if i buy a 10 dollar box that only lasts for 1 year i pay the government 1 dollar a year, after ten years i pay the equivalent tax to the gov but every year after i pay MORE tax

the more rubbish the more tax is being paid to the government, governments could probably see that theres a proportionate amount of rubbish to tax being paid.

the future is stupid

I don’t see that cheap clothing and cheap products are contributing to global warming.

Quite the reverse. In a nutshell, cost is a measure of man hours. More expensive products require more man hours to produce, and that has flow-on effects that are bad for the environment.

The problem is consumption, people have too much money.
