I draw a line on what animals I will eat, based on cuteness. Chickens and cows – eatable. Ducks – too cute. Lambs – too cute. Rabbits – much too cute.

OK, it’s a bit tongue in cheek – I’m a wannabe vegetarian living with a determined omnivore cook – our compromise is he eats vegie meals and I eat cows and chook. But cuteness aside, I could never eat a giggle pig. Had some lovely giggle pigs as pets.

I also won’t eat any animal that will fit in my mouth without being cut up – but mostly that just rules out seafood, and I don’t like seafood anyway :D

God, I sound awfully fussy, don’t I?? :D Truth is, I just love the taste of vegies.. meat, not so much.

I went to a (3 hr!!) lecture on health and digestion given by a chap call Professor Peter Dingle. He’s sort of the resident “anti-toxic chemicals” guy around Perth, but does research into digestion too. He was saying how all raw foods come ready-made with the enzymes in them that your body needs to digest that food – but if you cook the food, you kill the enzymes.

Sounds like a good theory and his family does eat mostly raw food I think, but there is no way on hell or earth that Mr Bon would try this. And I’m certainly not going to start preparing my own food.. :D

Pedant mode on……

Raw fish is Sashimi. Sushi can contain raw fish but not always and is actually named for the rice used.

Your pedant mode is wasted… I was just to lazy to type sashimi when most Australians would understand my sushi to know as raw fish.

You obviously haven’t spent much time with day old calves…but I’m with you, I only eat beef, chicken and a little plain fish, no shellfish, oh and ham but not pork. I eat mostly vegetarian meals though, can’t eat meat every day, it’s too heavy. I’m happy with once a week.

I knew someone like that. Probably the only true vegeterian. He wouldn’t use any of the vege. substitute sausages etc. All food was consumed fresh and raw. Certainly not the way I’d want to live.

LOL the way I enjoy WR.. it’s a real winter comfort food..( because of a slight health problem should cut back on this..)

large slabs of home made bread with lost butter ‘n hat mustard covered with the rarebit ( made with free range eggs and full cream cheese) pop under the burner.

Eat with…

A home made pumpkin ‘n chilli ( gives it a real kick ) soup.. roll on winter

The area where we had a plum tree that never grew has been just sitting there and not being used. I love pepino fruit and thought this was a great area to put one. Not only can it cover the “people fence” it can grow and not smother my other vegies.

That’s my most fav fruit, white nectarine. Mulched that area behind it with sheep manure and pea straw…..getting it ready for autumn sowing.

Close up of the pepino. On the really hot days, some old shade cloth will be used to cover the fence until the plant really grows. Still need to pop a trellis of some kind there.

Elf’s new passion fruit vine. Its a black Nelli Kelly. This area was were the raspberries were growing. They all died as Almost Mr.s Bimbo didn’t water them while we were in Sydney back 2 years ago. To the left under the bricks is where we buried Clancy, Roz and Bonnie. As this vine grows so will the trellis and I am thinking it’ll be a good shade area for the gang/girls.

Lemonade tree that Pomolo gave me one year for my birthday. Its grown heaps since I have seen Pepe’s lemon tree. Today it was mulched after a side dressing of chicken manure was spread around the outer edges.

So there you have it, today/mornings effort.

Still a few items on the list to be done. But a couple done each day instead of struggling to find a full day (and not being done at all) will bring my garden back in no time.

It came with the fruit on it. All the plants did and I took my time picking out the plant.

Mine is a about the same size but bushier…but it gets knocked by frost every year (this is the 3rd summer it has been in). Gone have to organise some protection for it, the tamarillo and my hibiscus this year I do believe.

This evening I am going to have fun planting out in the mulched areas, apple cucumbers, basil, silverbeet and loose leaf lettuces. The a lovely little feed of Pepe’s pigie poo he gave me the other day. That should get the neighbours sniffing and hiding inside;P

water it in well and put it on the straw rather than the new seedlings.

Only used the tiniest bit and it was spread all over the garden. I used one of those snap on seasole bottles with about a cm in the bottom and then filled that with water and then it was clipped onto the hose:)

i’m watering the garden – almost finished.
the rain is just a lick and a promise – the soil is dry and those hollow clouds are throwing a few spots and the occasional clap of thunder my way – nothing really.

i’m climbing – good luck with the op BL.
