The outcomes will likely be different given modern medicine; however, the impact on society and its functioning is likely to be significant.”

I wonder how far they’d go to contain it if it would result in millions of deaths

Widespread panic everywhere around me here. I don’t like whoever spread that shit.

It’s just s nasty version of the flu, like the 1968 flu. No reason for all the supermarkets in Perth to run out of toilet paper today because of panic buying.

I’m a little surprised there hasn’t been more discussion on this.

For example, I am a type 2 diabetic and so do not want to get a severe respiratory disease. I have no symptoms but since I can work remotely, i have done that… both to protect myself and do protect others (if I was infected during recent domestic travel).

I can see this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. For the majority of people it will be a minor inconvenience. For others, it is a significant health risk.

If for nothing else, the COVID-19 has shown a lot of us one thing: the majority of our consumer goods come from the PRC. It might be a good ‘wake up’ call to the disadvantages of a global economy.

I think that if you can practically isolate yourself, then what you are doing is reasonable.

I have to look more closely at food; toilet paper is NOT a concern (and have I mentioned how much I hate the “average” people?).

I doubt 90% of adults are vitamin deficient. Even junk food is fortified with essential vitamins and minerals. Talking about regular, average people, of course. Not people with medical issues.

I’m sure it would be pretty easy to work out optimum vitamin levels that would make 90% of adults deficient.

If carefully balanced those levels might not even be harmful.

Well, for a start, who is ‘we’, and just how to ‘we’ ‘know’?

Maybe ‘we’ ‘know’ that a lot of wealthy people are self-obsessed, largely ignorant, and unable to believe that a ‘cure’ just can’t be had for a big enough amount of money, and will part with such sums simply assure them of their ‘special’ status and their illusion of safety.

So probably false.

Pregnant women, cancer patients, and the elderly are often deficient in one micronutrient or another.

Combining various references it appears 16% of Australians have an iron deficiency (mostly women), 14% have a vit D deficiency, some amount less than 10% have calcium deficiency.

in fairness, it’s probably true

that approaching that proportion of wealthy privileged adults are deficient (or close to) in vitamin

Regarding corona. Yeah we have too many Rick ski crazy idiot in Norway. They brought back a shitty souvenir this time around.

The government was slow to act properly. They didn’t include Austria and Switzerland in the list of high risk areas you had to self isolate if you returned from there.

Astrid’s sister has been in self-isolate with her family because they were in Switzerland and northern Italy skiing. No symptoms there as far as I know and today is last day of isolation for them. We have stayed away from them even before their isolation period was strengthened by govt (initially family were allowed to work/school as normal, only Astrid’s sisters work was extra careful and said she had to be at home).

Astrid’s work had a night shift worker who has had to self quarantine as her partner has the virus. Her work takes care of at least one immune compromised person so they are taking zero chances.

My work has cancelled all planned social events until August.

Same with entertainment sector. We had tickets to two comedy shows at a local venue.

Both have been postponed until further notice.

My GP has no time for patients as his other position as head of infectious disease protection for the local council has suddenly become 16 hour a day job.

I just got a text stating that all Telstra staff are to work from home from Monday until the end of March.

That’s an interesting concept for linesmen and faultfinders.

That’s okay there are only a few Telstra workers left in Australia now as a considerable amount of their jobs went offshore.
