Whether merely thought or spoken aloud, last words before death are pretty much inevitable.

There’s no point planning them but I wouldn’t be surprised if my last words tended towards these examples:

a) WTF was that all about?
b) Anyway, I love you all.
c) Well maybe not all of you but
d) Never mind.
e) That’s a beautiful cloud structure, I was always good at the clouds.
f) Hehehe.
g) Maybe next time.

I wish I’d recorded my mum’s last words.

They were something like:

I ftdfko vdx hddgjeji gvbn ksxvd o el GC I’ve jkgxad.

My Mum’s last words were: “Those poor kids.” Meaning us, who had to deal with no mum any more.

Ooo, I really have already done this. The memory is a bit vague but the ambos had been asking me about pain levels. I stated that things weren’t too bad, maybe had got to a five but it was OK now. They then fumbled around connecting probes to various sectors of my body when I then came out with,

“I think it’s getting a bit worse now”.

I then died.

It was actually a fairly prescient statement :)

Very, very close to my father’s last were:

“I’m so sorry I’ve given you bad genes…” (looks me up and down – I wear shorts, mostly and was then), “Or in your case, shorts.”.

“I think it’s getting a bit worse now” seems a fair enough last remark, if somewhat lacking in philosophical substance.

On the strength of this one example, I’m going to suppose that she was a bigger disappointment to you than vice-versa.

I saw MrsRule’s father and uncle getting emotionally demolished by the reading of their mother’s will. They were a disappointment to her.

What an ignoranus.

I think my favourite Famous Last Words is the (unnamed) South American president who was shot with a machine gun while shopping in a fruit market. Lying, dying, in a cart of apples and oranges, he said, “Don’t let it end like this. Say I said something.”

In retrospect.

I forgave my father personally on his death bed. I should’ve done it earlier, but I didn’t like him. That was wrong. (I did personally forgive him years beforehand, but I didn’t say it to him.)

I also forgave my mother a few years ago personally, but I haven’t told her. I should.

I nearly died once and I thought “what a stupid way to go.” I didn’t of course, but I recall the matter of fact way about it, whereas I had thought it would be far more dramatic.

My mom didn’t wait
she told me to my face every day since I was a baby.
I came to rationalize it by knowing she was also the product of a terrible mother,

Actually I don’t know if he was religious , he was a landscape gardener /florist and designed/maintained quite a few gardens around the Northshore of Sydney. He did well for a person who had a glass eye since childhood and diminishing vision in his only remaining eye.
