For some time I have had a blood pressure problem

Started on coversyl didn’t do much

Then gave coversyl-plus a go still no joy it was still way over the top..

For the past 6 weeks I’ve been taking some dual acting tablets ..can’t remember the name .. by midday I should know if it has worked.

The new tab’s have made feel like total crap.. no energy.. ache all over.. many food/normal sized serve make me sick.

Gee, Col, your medication shouldn’t make you feel sick. I was on Coversyl for years and had to change cos it affected my kidneys. There are so many preparations for blood pressure out there it’s just a case of eliminating the ones that don’t suit till you find one that does.
Yes. Good Luck!

I’m on Micardis Plus (2 in 1) as well as Perindo (cheap Cipramil). It hasn’t made me feel sick though.

Doesn’t sound very pleasant :( If it is helping your blood pressure, do you have to keep taking them forever??

Urban Wombat, FWIW, hie thee to a good dietitian, one with whom you feel comfortable …she/he might put you on a meal plan (i.e. food groups per day sort of stuff) plus recommend a sports physiologist (maybe not straight away) and this will help you feel in control of your health (which you will be after a few consultations). Has your general physician not recommended this course of action yet?

Dietitians also explain what your foods do for (and against!) you, and they are skilled at helping folk with specific medical conditions.

Did you know, for instance, that rhythmic exercise, no matter how gentle, encourages the liver to produce the “good” cholesterol?

There are good oils and bad oils (as per the Castrol ads, “oyls ain’t oyls”), also at least a teaspoon of oil (e.g. olyve) helps keep the gall bladder problems away…but you really need to consult with a dietitian to personalize this for you…

Mr D and I have no qualms about consulting, as well as our GP, “our” dietitian and “our” sports physiologist on a regular basis…Mr D now no longer takes Lipitor for his cholesterol (which is now better than mine!). It’s taken him about 15 months and he has dropped from 120+ kg to 99 kg, with monitored exercise and diet…perserverance is the key and getting back into his 1980’s trousers was a big reward…

MrP has been on BP medication for 2 years now and his pressure still sits around 190 until a pill makes it drop. I think he has naturally high BP. According to the medical profession you’re not allowed to do that so he keeps fighting. God only knows what it’s doing to his internal workings.

I have never heard him say that his meds make him ill though.

My Dad smoked when he was young, but had given up before I was able to remember it. Just as well, he wouldn’t have made it to 63 if he hadn’t. His father died at 50.

My Dad had high BP for most of his life, and this weakened the heart muscle. After his (quad I think) bypass the stitches tore one night. Game over.

There is a strong heart disease tendency on his side, the smoking in his early days and the moderate-heavy drinking wouldn’t have helped either.. Or the fact his father was a butcher so there was the habit of always plenty of meat on the plate, usually red meat too.

Mine’s hereditary as well. It could, and nearly did once, kill me. So meds for life here too. Gemfibrozil is the one I take but it’s for a specific type of triglyceride.

Well there are always the ones who claim to enjoy it, and some who say it is their right..

Any addiction in hard to beat, tobacco is one of the hardest. But if you turn it around, who else can stop someone smoking?

In the end the smoker has to conclude the pleasure they get is exceeded by whatever is motivating them to quit..

Don’t joke, that actually happened to me once…and I wasn’t going even remotely fast. Lets just say it’s best I stick to breaststroke and leave freestyle for those who can actually do it with some finesse. The embarrassing thing was that I was trying to improve my freestyle at the time and was concentrating very very hard on getting the right arm action when I was suddenly grabbed and somebody started dragging me toward the edge of the pool. When I spluttered “What are you DOING!?!” they said “Didn’t you want help? You were waving your arms around and I thought you needed help”

Suffice to say, I was so mortified that I have NEVER attempted to improve my freestyle after that, it’s now just something OTHER swimmers do.

Yeah. If I’m conscious I shouldn’t drown. I’ve been in competitive swimming teams and played in a Navy Water Polo competition. But that WAS 27-30 years ago.. But I’ve done several HUET courses (helicopter underwater escape training) since and I can tread water for hours.

I’m slow through the water because I’m so big, but that’s OK. I’m not out to set records. So if I treat swimming as a zen like quest for perfection, I might end up being an OK swimmer again.

I was disconcerted by kids with kick boards sailing past me until I saw they had flippers…

i do 20 laps of my pool but its only 9 metres long and if i kick off the wall and do a bit of porpoising (?) i get to the other end in four strokes.

20 laps in a big pool would get the muscles working.

Swimming is excellent for dogs with arthritis and other joint issues so give her all the encouragement you can. I had a little foster pup here that I fell in love with and was going to keep until she and Ella stopped getting along and I got in the middle of the fight (some may remember)…anyway, she had hip dysplasia and it was highly recommended that I take her swimming. Swimming puts no pressure on the joints while exercising and strengthens the muscles around the joints so that they take the pressure off the joints and the joints don’t need to work so hard.

Some dogs who have had accidents have the hip ball completely removed and are then sent for hydrotherapy. The muscles around the missing hip ball can become so strong that they do the job of the joint and the dogs can regain full movement of the joint. Anyway, interesting piece of trivial info there, LOL!

That is a dangerous game! You should not stop bp meds cold turkey. A friend of mine who had been on bp meds for a long time just suddenly gave them up cold turkey. A few days later she had a massive stroke and died aged 41. Tell him to be take his meds as required. 190 is way too high!

it’s worry isn’t it? the pills they give us to save us also make us vulnerable. I missed a day once as I had run out and couldn’t make an appointment until the next day, and the doctor was very concerned. So I try and always make sure I have a new script well before I run out now.

I don’t think I explained that very well AnneS. MrP takes 4 different types of bp medication over the course of each day. Each morning he still wakes up wiith a pressure around 190. We don’t muck around with it at all. We do as per Dr instructions.

My stomach medication is one that used to be used (at MUCH higher doses) for depression. The documentation is full of dire warnings about not stopping suddenly as it can cause suicidal thoughts and so forth. My doctor assures me that it doesn’t apply at my dose, but it is a bit scary!

YaY hope goes well, it will because that is a great day, My son was born on that day and turns 18 this month. Been a long 18 years and lots of tears, unfortunately his Nonna and Great Nonna and father wont be with him to celebrate the day as they have chosen to disown him and as vise verse with Chris, he finally wised up to them after all the years of black mail for access(no maintenance payments for over 12 years) if I had of perused it they refused to see the child. Also with a few other people he used to look up to, I think we ( chris & I) are sick and tied of people trying to rule our lifes, Maybe this dont fit in here but it will do for now, Sad when the shit hits the fan and who you think are your friends get blown out with the shit I guess , at their choice !?!. Great way to house clean ? I say 2010 time to get my life back again , And go ahead you know who and C & P this and put it on his forums KK

Re that last bit about ‘you know who’, isn’t everyone here on good terms? Didn’t we leave the questionable behind when we came here? Or am I just really oblivious?

One of my cats is on a small dose of a human antidessant as an appetite stimulant.
