Oh, thank god it’s not just me. If I had one wish that I couldn’t use for, you know, world peace and stuff – it would be for everything in my house and garden to have a place, fit easily into that place, and be easy to retrieve/put away. I’m really seriously hoping that the main reason it is so hard at the moment is the sheer lack of space. Will be thinking very hard when we design the new place, about how to organise things… I think I would like to separate storage space from “doing” space, so instead of having a shed in the backyard where tools are stored and things get done – put some very shallow (say 1 foot deep) storage areas (maybe behind roller doors etc) along one side of the house or shed, where there’s room to store things – so the “doing” area is free of things that aren’t being used. Sorry, that’s a bit rambly, but I spend a lot of time pondering these issues :)

you can get sheds that are like that. very shallow and not much more than cupboards for gardening tools so take up very little space.

Oh cool. I think that is what would suit me best.. give me a large space and it will fill up to the point of being inaccessible.. but lots of small spaces, and I think you must cut down the chances of that happening.. I might also label shelves and things.. wouldn’t do it inside but happy to go all-out outside..

Ooh, especially like the ones toward the end, where the doors go right to the edges – don’t like the idea of having a little inaccessible corner. This used to drive me nuts in my closet where I used to live..

Will also look into getting it built into the house though – if you put it on the right side, it might provide some passive-solar, insulative type benefit?

Thanks guys..

I love this..

One wouldn’t be big enough for me, but all along one side of the house.. drools. Nothing stuck behind anything else!! I would even draw outlines around each hanging tool so it always went back to the right place.. Maybe with electrical tape so it’s removable.

See, I do have this clean-freak/organisational urge in me.. it just.. doesn’t get acted on often :D

I doubt I will get a sniff in… the shed has an air of rusticity to it, so I think an art studio it is… unless I take up wood turning ;)
