i saw that dusty springfield as well and her voice went up in my estimation.. the trouble is -‘i can’t get her out of my mind’ – so i’m using patsy cline to get some new imprints.
>i saw that dusty springfield as well and her voice went up in my estimation.

peggy lee’s rendition of ‘fever’ is what i was looking for – but we don’t have it.
the postman is the hero back in those days for ‘bringing those love letters to me’
seems ridiculously antiquated nowadays and yet elvis had a love letter song.
I found a Peggy Lee directory on my mp3 collection, it is a realllly old recording.
Tracks are numbered, not named so I’ll listen to see if I have fever.

hers really is the best version of that song
No, don’t think so. Is that from the 30s? Sounds like it?

Sheesh! – Really! Don’t the years fly by!
I love Judith Durham’s voice too, got a few of hers and The Seekers.
Frank Zappa is on the ipod…
“He puts forth, a cream rosette…”
My tastes are pretty eclectic. It just depends on my mood. If I’m on my own in the car I tend to Yell along with George to Bad to the Bone. I like the sound track to O Brother Where Art Thou and Johnny Cash.
We were big Bruce Springsteen fans long before he became popular in Aus. In our younger days we listened to quite a bit of Buffy St Marie but nobody knows who we’re talking about these days.
Eric Bogle, The Furies, lots of different stuff really.

We’ve seen the Furies live twice, and Eric Bogle once. The Bushwackers used to do a good live show as well.
Bush Dances were a popular thing too. There used to be a big one every New Years Eve at City Hall in Bris. Always got a big turnout and great, if sweaty, fun.

Judith Durham was very good.
I’m feeling like the odd one out here.
Frank Zappa and Black Sabbath…I’m sure I’d know them if I heard them but I can’t name one song.
Heaviest things in my collection are The Tea Party http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTnq0goeR04
and Live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF0tLlc9kXk
Oldest (excluding classical) is Melanie Safka http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEQzX4AO4×4

I asked youngest daughter what disco did they go to last night and she looked at me like I’d grown 3 heads.
“They’re *nightclubs’ mum!!”
Well obviously the disco era is sacred to us. thank goodness something is!

We were never into Disco or Nightclubs.
Beck singing Debra.
Man that guy has a cracker of a range… we heard it yesterday in the car on the J’s and it had the two of us singing “Crazeeeeeee”
Great song, all about a guy loving a girl so that he can get closer to her sister….

My Boney M story….
A good couple/friends of ours are big Eurovision fans and they don’t mind a bit of Boney M thank you very much. Now the 4 of us had made it across the PNG border and into Indonesia and we were visiting Jayapura. We had all jumped into a taxi (read little Toyota Kijang) with seats facing into the middle and therefore we say facing each other. Me good friend pulls out the video to record a trip across town and as he does, the driver cranks up the stereo. There’s this really interesting introduction to a song that is a bit odd, but me friend recognises it straight away as “By the River of Babylon”
Oh how we sang…
I have seen The Four Kinsmen; Jon English and John Williamson at the local club. All good nights out at a fraction of the normal concert price and good atmosphere. The Four Kinsmen were fantastci showmen
