The first successful demonstration of video telegraphy came in 1927 when Baird operated his 20-line mechanical TV over a phoneline from Glasgow to London.
However the first commercial was in Germany in 1936. The post office operated a video telegraphy service between major cities. This was an fully electronic 420 line system with CRT receivers. It operated until 1940.
