Gordon Sumner at Memorial Drive, followed by INXS at Apollo and then Midnight Oil at Thebby.
Devo, at the Hordon Pav in Sinny.
About 1980/81.
Oh, saw Redgum at a pub in Canberra with my sister in 1980. I was 16.
Not really a concert though I guess. So Devo it was.
Mum took me to see The Delltones at the Tamworth Workies Club not long before I turned 18.
Not much choice when it came to concerts up the country!
Vividly remember seeing the Cockroaches before they got famous. Bloody brilliant night. That was when I was about 19.
Lots of local pub bands about in the early 80s … don’t go to pubs any more, and we’re even further up the country, wouldn’t have a clue if there are such things as local pub bands around here!
First “big” concert was Dire Straits at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in 1987, had front row tickets for their televised concert. Ruined me for concerts thereafter, if I can’t be up the front I can’t be bothered going.

If we’re being totallly honest, I went to Hoadleys battle of the sounds first. LOL
G’day Yeehah. :)
Numerous classical concerts and JC Superstar as excursions for school. But I think Cat Stevens was the first pop concert I went to.

Hoadleys?
Actually it was a little bit of an anti-climax. It was just like listening to a record. Everything was technically correct, but there was no atmosphere. He was actually quite boring, but I still loved it cause I loved his music so much. Ironically one of the best concerts I have ever been to, because of the way he got the audience involved was with Rolf Harris at the Penrith Leagues club. Also Neil Diamond at the Sydney Sports Ground in ’75 and Roberta Flack at the Hordern Pavilion were prett good too

We slept on the footpath outside Festival Hall one night just to get Rod Stewart tickets. We weren’t even big fans but we were elected by a group of friends as official ticket buyers. It turned out to be a brilliant concert. Much better live.

Musta been the ‘ Real Thing“lol
I can’t remember what order, but I’ve seen Dire Straights, John Farnham (that MAY have been the first), Pseudo Echo (or maybe this was the first), The Tea Party (twice), Hothouse Flowers (twice) and REM. I think I’m forgetting some though. I forgot I’d seen Dire Straights until someone else mentioned it. :O

Me too! It was John Shumann post Redgum at a pub in Canberra as well. 1988 and I was only 14, no idea how they let me in.
First real concert was Noiseworks and The Divinals were the warm up act, Christina Amphlett was high on something and sang the whole set sitting on a milk crate. Everyone could see up her dress.
Best ever concert was The Eagles a couple of years ago, unbelievable!!!!!
I have never been to one

Like Grassy I didn’t go to any concerts. My control freak step father wouldn’t let me go to any.
But I used to love ‘Happening 71’ on tv on sat morns..that was my housework day so I’d be bopping around the house with the broom, lol.
My penchant for heavy metal didn’t come until I was mid 20s and 2 kids but I haven’t looked back, and my collection just keeps growing.
only ever went to two concerts. First was the Who and we had tickets that placed us right at the back behind a column so couldn’t see much, the other was ELO and couldn’t get any seats at all and had to stand with people throwing up and peeing against the wall around us. Put me off rock concerts for life. Been to a couple of classical performances. Hush played at our school once (before they became famous.)

Seen also over the years.

Beach Boys
ACDC

Skyhooks
Fleatwood Mack
To name a few.

Though tame by most wild rock’n roll antics of the era, the band was blasted for taking beer on board the plane, using bad language and upsetting the Ansett cabin crew, during the flight from Adelaide to Melbourne en route to New Zealand.
Police met the band – lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon – at Essendon airport before escorting them on a different Ansett flight across the Tasman.
But the damage was done and Mr Gorton later telegrammed the band, telling them never to set foot in Australia again.

Oh, Brian Mannix was from the Uncanny X-men, and thanks for reminding me I also saw Spy V Spy.
My fave Dr Hook song is The Radio. :) Haven’t heard it for years and had been meaning to do a youtube search for yonks. It reminded me to also search for another ‘lost’ song from my childhood…Angelo, which all these years I thought was Abba. Just found it and it’s by Brotherhood of Man so thank you Collie for reminding me of Dr Hook (which sent me on the search for Angelo), and thank you Bubba for starting this thread. :)
Angelo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRLQs0w4ExY&feature=related
and once I found Angelo I also found this classic, which my dad used to sing to me when I was a wee one…

I have to agree with you on the last bit. I can’t justify the amount of money they are charging to see a concert these days, hence the few I saw were oldish bands. I just won’t spend over $100 for a couple of hours of seeing little ants moving around from somewhere at the back and have my ears ring for days. Plus that many people in one place is kind of off-putting to me. I’d rather just buy the album.

When I was a teenager my weekend job was to vacuum out the public areas of the house (i.e. not bedrooms) and it took me almost 2 hours – biiiiig house. And my mum and dad were at work, but work was the family business next door, so I had to get the vacuuming done before I could watch Donny Sutherland on Sounds/Unlimited at 10am or my sisters would run next door and dob on me!!
(on the positive side I didn’t get the job of cleaning the bathroom/s, I was much happier vacuuming!)

Though I probably wanted to go to many concerts .. Like my friends who had gone to colleges and Uni had been to see Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin etc..
Me I was stuck here without even a car.
I eventually got down to Sunbury in 1973 Where I saw Queen’s debut in Australia.
The next concert I saw was in 2003 when My children shouted me tickets to see Yes on their 35th anniversary tour.
I also travelled to Canberra to see Paul Kelly..

There is a rumour (I think it may be entirely fangirl-generated though) that Richard is being considered to be Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.
