Older folk do tend to have hearts that can be tickled more easily.

ACE2 receptors. They are where the SARS-CoV-2 virus attaches.

Will YouTube soon be full of people posting DIY videos on defibrillators now in addition to the ventilators and face masks I wonder …?

can you imagine the 3M predicted cases worldwide (that’s if every place gets their shit together today and terminates further spread), and 1 in 5 of those which is 600k extra people needing a pacemaker over the next year

hard to get a sense of how many people usually score pacemakers but it seems it’s somewhere between 1M and 3M

then imagine a bigger pandemic, or some joker actually believing the marketing for “flock immunity”, and say 300M people in specific countries around the world getting screwed by this

sixty million pacemakers in the next year, these Cardiologists are going to be Rolling In It and Loving It

It could evolve over time become deadlier and we are looking at hundreds of thousands of death per country

it will, if we allow uncontrolled spread as some have advised

That idea seems to stem from otherwise everyone could be isolated for a long time until a vaccine is ready, government could very well have an acceptable level of collateral damage if it turns into a long wait

we suspect that instead, when enough of the “restrictions” have finally been lifted, people are going to go out and be merry and be thankful and they’ll think, “well, hanging out with the people at home / online / in our imagination for a few months and not dying of COVID-19 wasn’t all that bad after all, and by golly our room / house / hutchie looks marvelous”

and life will go on, and the new normal won’t be worse than the old normal

and politicians might have a new lease of humility

ok the first 2 out of 3 ain’t bad

Yes, I’d read about that earlier in China. This is new to me about Italy.

What it means is that people with pre-existing heart problems can die from them when they have coronavirus, faster than they would have died from them without coronavirus.

No, it can directly attack the heart. Lot more detail in the article.

I think cardio myopathy can have a similar cause by an initial virus infection damaging the heart valves iirc.

I scored two AEDs recently, gave one to the local girl guides ( someone had keeled over at a meeting with a heart attack a few weeks ago ). Needs new batteries and the pads are a bit out if date but I’m looking forward to using my new AED. These kinds of AED typically deliver about 150Joules , to deliver more you need the other types older ones with the big paddles you see rubbing together in movies or things like LIFEPAKs or CORPULS that you see in ambulances.
