Subject: Help please - Facebook operators, good Googlers, etc.

We’ve done our sums and decided that we can board and feed two international university students stuck in QLD in financial distress in these difficult times.

We can sustain free full-board for two people until the end of the year at least. They would have separate bedrooms, but would have to share a large bathroom. They also would have internet for their study etc.

I haven’t been able to find anywhere that I can volunteer this assistance.

I don’t Facebook (and I am highly unlikely to start).

Google has not been my friend.

Can others here please help me find appropriate contacts?

TIA

Telephone. Telephone your nearest Qld Uni and ask.

With a bit of luck, the receptionist will transfer you to the correct department. (If not, try another University).

This is a wonderful and very generous offer, MV. Imagine if you had two Geology students!

I got a few useful-looking returns just by typing “Student accommodation Queensland” into Google.

Tbh social media is your best chance. I’ll have a look on Facebook and see what I can come up with. I could vet people And send your contact details?

You could also contact the local newspaper, they can run a story. Most local papers are owned by News Corp these days, so your story might make it to Courier Mail.

What search terms are you using for google?

Maybe Student Union can help too

That’d be great, thanks DA. (Facebook looking.)

Our local newspaper is locally owned and run. I suppose I could contact them, but I’m pretty private so it might give me the jitters.

I’ve used lots of search terms on google. I’ve spent most of the day on it.

Nah. Not unless they’re relatives.

DA:

Any luck on social media?

(The university and the student union were unable to help.)

( I also may have a lead-in to Red Cross.)

They end up breaking things and/ or stealing things in my experience. One character that seemed ok stole some lotto tickets of someone, broke the washing machine then broke the dryer in one day.

If they see you have something nice it will go missing or there will be “an accident” and it gets smashed.

I assume you have already found this, Mr V. It’s QLD gubbermint info.

https://www.studyqueensland.qld.gov.au/Live/Accommodation

Lots of useful links on there such as https://www.homestaynetwork.org/

Be aware that a lot of students use “agencies” for this, and these agencies may charge you a “fee” for listing, and/or charge the student for a placement.
