In lockdown, I’ve taken up doodling again.
In doodling:
a) Are there any good scientific studies into what doodling tells us about normal psychology?
b) In art, can you tell an artist from a pleb by their doodles?

I used to doodle incessantly, but rarely do in these screen-centred times. Should take it up again.
Many of my doodles were very artistic indeed, little treasures.
I was doodling yesterday. And had a song from the new Trolls movie stuck in my head.

My sister has increased her doodling output. She is working on watercolour paper. She will drop a few areas of water colour in and then add some more colour in working wet on wet. When the paper is dry she is doodling with a fine point black felt tip.
a. I have read about doodling and PTSD and such. They referenced Bauhaus stuff. I remember a discussion about starting on a square sheet or round piece of paper. The round piece of paper was described as an arena. A place where things could happen.
b. you can certainly tell someone who does a lot of drawing.

Ah, lovely, lovely, lovely.
Here are some of my doodles from yesterday and today.
For “normal” psychology and doodles, there is this fun little article showcasing doodles from a range of American Presidents.
It’s rather embarrassing that my doodles most resemble Reagan’s.

Yours are way better than Reagan’s.
Not much of a compliment, I know.

It’s useless now, already been used 😜
Found out that “Doodles” is the name of a recognised branch of topology, but that’s not relevant here.
Some papers on the value of doodles by a famous artist or two. Such as Jim Henson.
Some papers on using doodles as psuedosignatures, as an alternative security system.
Some papers on doodles and how they improve memory retention by, for instance, Uni students.
But very little on doodles in psychology. There is this one:
Sense of Belongingness Among Filipino Elderly:The Use of Doodles in Geriatrics Research
This book ought to be interesting. Helen King – 1957 “Your Doodles and what They Mean to You”.

John Lennon published a small book called In His Own Write, it had some of his doodles in it.
They were absolute shit.

He also published another book called A Spaniard in the Works, which also had some of his doodles in it. I thought they were comparable to the doodles in IHOW. Yoko Ono published another book she claimed was by JL, but it was totally different to any of his other work.

She ruined the Beatles, they’d still be together and making great music if……if it wasn’t for that hussy.
I was curious to see what Trump may have done. The second one is signed in gold pen (of course)

She’s a weird one, ain’t she.
Here’s some doodles:
Not mine though. I make doodles inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe.

It was bound to happen, sooner or later…

I’m not sure those drawings qualify as the subject title…
That art is very like that of Keith Haring CN. Do you know his work?

The Garden of Earthly Delights. It’s fascinating from … from lots of directions:
As history of art – the origin point of surrealism
As a scientific statement – most the animals known at that time, real and imagined
As a psychological profile – of the man himself
As a fixed time point in the history of religious and secular mythology

Interesting – thick pen. Had to look him up. When I look at these I can’t help thinking – can you find a path through this maze?

I’m really surprised by the flattery. I didn’t think mine were. But then I trend to undervalues what I find easy to do.
