Sure. But then you’re much less likely to be in an at-risk group. So visits are OK. One at a time in most places. Two at a time in Qld and the ACT.

What do people think about someone working from home when not enough work exists for them to do so and they are likely to have nothing to do
Should it instead be taken as annual or personal leave

It’s not me but a coworker
The department seem overly keen to grant working from home for vulnerable people but the actual work for them to do doesn’t exist.
We require access to printers/photocopier and client files which can’t go to someone house (privacy/security reasons) and the only task that could conceivable be done from home is doing the court listing paperwork and there isn’t enough of it for them to do it all day for many weeks. It means they are likely to get paid with nothing to do for most of the day

My experiences with people who are supposed to be self-isolating with maximum possible protection for age & medical history conditions is that many of them just ignore the recommendation, claim they haven’t been notified, cite irrelevant information, make accusations of ageism, or dismiss the severity or reality of the risk as ridiculous.

I’ve had times in jobs where i didn’t have much to do. I didn’t go looking for work, it knew where to find me when it wanted me. There were times in those jobs where i worked like a little brindle dog, and i didn’t get paid any extra for it, so it all balanced out.

Most board members do appear to be doing nothing all day.
I think CEO space time is slower for CEOs
When they get on a 3 minute phone and action something is actionably somehow stretched to over 8 hours.
To themselves they appear to be on the phone.
To other people they appear to be doing nothing.

Perhaps if some of the people complaining about the down-turn in the humourousness were to contribute something themselves? Perhaps even something they had conjured?
I, for example, have not only been contributing material sourced from around the Internets, I have been developing the idea that one should be laughing into one’s elbow, as a bon mot du jour. I even have an acronym – LIME – and because that’s where the funny bone is, afterall.
I’m reminded of an old saying here, often applied to the passengers of a vehicle bogged to the axles: Those who wont push can at least get out and walk.

After the National Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said advice from the Government’s medical experts was still that face masks don’t protect wearers from infection.
“It is not recommended by the expert panel that they are necessary to be worn,” he said.
“It’s important to note that the wearing of such a mask does not protect you from an infection, but if you are displaying respiratory symptoms then it is, at best, a measure that prevents you transferring it to others.”
Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy said masks were providing a “false sense of security” to those who wear them.
“We’re saying again that they are not recommended,” he said.
what a way to mark out people, eh?

“We’re saying again that they are not recommended,” he said.
what a way to mark out people, eh?
They’re still wrong but if they mean the number of community transmissions in Australia is so low the benefit of the mask is negligible, then they should just say that.

Even if he’s not lying, it speaks volumes about Trump that he thinks that a press conference about a serious disease that’s infected nearly a million of his citizens, and killed over 50,000 of them (right now about 6,000 short of the number of Americans killed in Vietnam ) is a good time to indulge in a little sarcasm.

I think sarcasm is a higher order function that very few Trump voters could construct.

No. Alanis Morrisette screwed them for that when she confused ‘unfortunate’ with ‘ironic’.
Is it ironic that she wrote a song about irony without understanding the term?

Yeah, I was only joking about the Germans not joking. The 2nd German I got to know reasonably well had a great sense of humour.
my mum, on the other hand, was a stern Yugoslav woman who rarely joked and didn’t like being a mother until she was a grandmother…

It would an interesting experiment if you could go back in time remove Hitler and see how the world turned out, one man gone could drastically alter the world

The famous ‘Tea Party’ was as much an act of ‘industrial espionage’ as anything else.
The Townshend Act had forced up the price of commodities, including tea, which led to the development of a thriving smuggling and black market in those goods.
The British government gave in to protests from legitimate traders, and repealed the Townshend Act.
This wasn’t popular with those who were on to a nice little earner with the smuggling and what-all, which included some of the luminary ‘founders of the nation’. A decrease in the price of legitimate imports put that business at risk.
So, they hired some local thugs, and had them crudely disguised as ‘Indians’, and set them to destroying legitimately imported cargo, including a lot of tea. And this was after the Act had been repealed, andtherepal was knon in Boston, so there was no ideological justification for the action.

A Cardiff shop has been forced to apologise after one of its banners contained an offensive typo.
Bargain store Massive Discounts contracted a sign-maker to create a new banner for the shop front. Sadly, the banner contained the word ‘discocunt’ instead of the word ‘discount’.
Shop manager Jim Bellend told WalesOnCraic:
“I’ve always hammered home the importance of good spelling to my staff. Unfortunately, this didn’t extend to the twat who made my sign and posted it for all the world to see. It’s a massive embarrassment as I don’t have any discocunts in stock.”
Shopper Lesley Longarms said:

The shop has since replaced the banner.

I disagree. I think the critic needs to takes appropriate responsibility for the way the words fall on the criticised. This becomes proportionally more important as the social superiority of the critic increases.

In this case, the critique by the critic was on a posted “meme”. The critique by me was “Pass.” (with two meanings – I had hoped for a laugh – it didn’t occur) . sibeen’s critique was something like “it was a bit funny”. I can’t see any criticism on any person. It was aboout a “meme”.

If you were not, then you’ve demonstrated my point, that criticism of cultural phenomena does not necessarily imply an attitude of unjustified superiority on the part of the critic.
on the other hand, we are necessarily superior to everyone here but we never criticise

A 53-year-old Loveland man who boasted he’d bring high-powered weapons to a protest at the Colorado Capitol against coronavirus restrictions was arrested over the weekend and faces charges after Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agents raided his home and found four pipe bombs, authorities said Sunday night.
A criminal complaint alleges that Bradley Bunn, described by an official as a member of an anti-government militia, possessed illegal destructive devices. Law enforcement officers including FBI agents, equipped with two search warrants, conducted the raids on Friday.
Bunn raised concerns after he boasted on social media that he would bring high-powered weapons to a rally at the Colorado Capitol protesting coronavirus restrictions, the official said.

The Gospel of Judas is a good one. In it, Jesus is not sent from Yahweh to redeem to world from Satan, but sent by a higher level god to save us from Yahweh. Yahweh is some capricious lower order god who created a shithole imperfect world.

NYPD Officer Hopes Black Teen Only Coughing Because He Just Choked Him
NEW YORK—Expressing concerns about contracting Covid-19 from the interaction, NYPD officer Bruce MacLeod confirmed Thursday that he hoped a local black teen was only coughing because he had just been choking him. “Oh God, please let that be a barely clinging-to-life cough and not a dry cough,” said MacLeod, explaining that he should have followed police protocol and donned a mask before forcibly cutting off the unarmed black teen’s airway with a nightstick. “I promised my wife and kids that until this pandemic is behind us, I would just shoot black teens from a safe distance, but unfortunately, I got carried away. I didn’t even think twice about going in and suffocating him because it’s such a habit to beat these black kids to a pulp. And given that seven of us tackled him, it might mean we all have it.” At press time, MacLeod slowly sang the alphabet song twice while washing the black teen’s blood off his hands.

Musk threatens to exit California over virus restrictions
Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk has threatened to pull the company’s factory and headquarters out of California in an escalating spat with local officials who have stopped the company from reopening its electric vehicle factory.
On Twitter, Musk also threatened to sue over Alameda County Health Department coronavirus restrictions that have stopped Tesla from restarting production its factory in Fremont south of San Francisco.
“Frankly, this is the final straw,” he tweeted. “Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately.”
He wrote that whether the company keeps any manufacturing in Fremont depends on how Tesla is treated in the future.
Mr Musk has been complaining about the stay-home order since the company’s April 29 first-quarter earnings were released, calling the restrictions fascist and urging governments to stop taking people’s freedom.
Oh, how I love this man.

(True enough, it’s more like Northwest, but honestly it’s as frustrating as the rest of the geopolitics around it… if you come from either place you’re still going to get kicked to the kerb walking down the street in Melbourne.)

I think they have reached the point where they realise it has well and truly gotten away from them; and that trying to bring it (back) under control by testing, self-isolating and social distancing etc is going to take months, even a year. They don’t have the stomach for such a long haul struggle. So they are letting it go, but trying to hold it at just under the level at which the health system gets swamped and collapses. In some sense this is a rational decision.
Same in the UK.
They know they have failed. They had a narrow window of opportunity and they stuffed it up. To admit failure of this magnitude means they would have to resign, but they have so many other ambitions in power that remain unfulfilled they can’t resign.

Has anyone told them that to let it run through the population would take longer, possibly forever ¿
No, scratch that, they only take advice that they want to listen to.
Not sure either that their window of opportunity was particularly narrow either.

Why is the reverse side of the elbow, also called the elbow? I know anatomically it is the same joint but you ask anyone to point to their elbow they’ll point to the outside of the bend. Why don’t they just say cough/sneeze into your arm?

A lot of people have been asking me what it’s like being on the COVID wards in the hospital, so I figured I’d share what a typical day looks like for me:
6am – Wake up. Roll off of my pile of money that Big Pharma gave me. Softly weep as it doesn’t put a dent in my medical school loans
6:30am – Make breakfast, using only foods from the diet that gives me everlasting life by avoiding all fats, sugars, carbs, and proteins. For details buy my book and check out my shop.
7am – Get to work, load up my syringes with coronavirus before rounds.
8am – See my patients for the day. Administer the medications that the government tells me to. Covertly rub essential oils on the ones I want to get better.
9:30am – Call Bill Gates to check how 5G tower construction is going, hoping for more coronavirus soon. He tells me they’re delayed due to repairs on the towers used to spread the Black Plague. Curse the fact that this is the most efficient way to spread infectious diseases.
10am – One patient tells me he knows “the truth” about coronavirus. I give him a Tdap booster. He becomes autistic in front of my eyes. He’ll never conspire against me again.
11am – Tend to the secret hospital garden of St. John’s wort and ginkgo leaves that we save for rich patients and donors.
12:30pm – Pick up my briefcase of money from payroll, my gift from Pfizer for the incomprehensible profits we make off of the free influenza vaccine given every year.
1pm – Conference call with Dr. Fauci and the lab in Wuhan responsible for manufacturing viruses. Tell them my idea about how an apocalypse-style zombie virus would be a cool one to try for the next batch.
2pm – A patient starts asking me about getting rid of toxins. I ask her if she has a liver and kidneys. She tells me she knows “the truth” about Big Anatomy and that the only way to detoxify herself is to eat nothing but lemon wedges and mayonnaise for weeks. I give her a Tdap booster.
2:45pm – Help the FBI, CIA, and CDC silence the masses. Lament the fact that I can only infringe on one or two of their rights. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.
4pm – One of my rich patients begins to crash. Laugh as I realize I’ve mismatched her spirit animal and zodiac moon sign. I switch out the Purple Amethyst above her bed for a Tiger’s Eye geode. She stabilizes. I throw some ginkgo leaves on her for good measure
6pm – Go onto YouTube and see coronavirus conspiracy videos everywhere. Curse my all powerful government for how inept they are at keeping people from spreading “the truth”
6:10pm – Go onto Amazon and see that a book about “the truth” is the #1 seller this week. Question the power of my all powerful government. Make a reminder to myself to get more Tdap boosters from the Surgeon General next time we talk.
7pm – Time to go home. Before I leave, sacrifice a goat to Dr. Fauci and say three Hippocratic Oaths.
9pm – Take a contented sigh as I snuggle under the covers made of the tinfoil hats of my enemies, realizing that my 4 years of medical school and 3 years of residency training have been put to good use today.

Why is the reverse side of the elbow, also called the elbow? I know anatomically it is the same joint but you ask anyone to point to their elbow they’ll point to the outside of the bend. Why don’t they just say cough/sneeze into your arm?

A lot of people have been asking me what it’s like being on the COVID wards in the hospital, so I figured I’d share what a typical day looks like for me:6am – Wake up.
Good one.
:)

So as well as reporting our food intake here, we now need to report every cough and sneeze and sniff? I don’t think there is enough space in VBT…

Uncle was an avionics tech.
Told of an Air India 747 that had a warning light flashing – not critical, not immediate attention, but, hey, this needs to be looked at soon, ok?
Several reports of this logged by flight crew.
Air India resolved problem, and ended reports – by removing the bulb from the warning light.
Donny understands.

Yes. I would be, if I found a stash of methamphetamine in either of my houses.
Mike Bowen, PPE manufacturer who warned about shortages, testifies to Congress:
https://www.kpvi.com/news/political/witness-im-a-lifelong-republican-im-embarrassed/video_ca6f9513-9572-5c88-912e-7b7400370542.html
Q: “Is there not something more insidious here when you have an administration that downplayed it, said it was going to disappear, didn’t follow the scientists and told Dr Bright, instead of we respect you and we hear you, in fact we’re going to can you and we’re going to reassign you, we’re going to bury you because we’re speaking truth to power?”
Bowen: “Now that you ask, again, I’m a Republican, I’m a lifelong Republican, and I’m embarrassed by how that’s been handled. Like Rick Bright said, it’s the scientists that we need to be listening to, and we’re not. That has got to change, or more lives are going to be lost.”
Sorry, wrong thread.
