morning rook – my dwarf conifir is the same
- too much sun and not enough water is my guess.
keep the water up until winter – when it revives in the cooler weather prune off the dead bits.
that’s my plan anyrate.

Morning pepe. After reading that GA article I would be concerned that it is the cypress canker. Have a look at this as well:

Canker or a borer… Conifer’s like this will not reshoot from old wood, so if and when you cut off the effected limb, take a look to see if there are any tunnels inside indicating borers. Canker internal damage doesn’t look pretty at all :(

You’ll find most conifers don’t like too much competition around their bases and it pays to keep the mulch clear from under their drip zone, this also helps to keep the borers at bay…

I’d prune and check the insides…
