Gees you’re quick PM. I only just heard about Nev. I hope he can deliver some much needed rain without all the devastation that usually goes with a cyclone.
How is Towntown now after your 2009/2010 downpour? Things are probably much worse here because of our heavy rains. Everything burst into new growth after the rains but because it’s been dry since then, it’s all giving up the ghost quickly as well. Not happy Jan!
Magda looks promising for us, we always get rain when there is a good blower off the WA coast. Only trouble is we havn’t finished mowing after the last one :)

same here Pomolo, everybody is irrigating again, its as if the 10 inches of rain in the last week of Dec and the 5 inches in the first week of January meant nothing :(

well the latest is that while Ex TC Nev lloked like he got swamped by Olga, who is heading her way to Cooktown and beyond, Ex Nev is still sitting in and spinning just behind her. There is the potential for a 3rd Cyclone to spin up this morning and there are predictions that this could hit land at Townsville as a Cat 1 within the next 24 – 48 hours. Either that or Ex Nev will get in the way and wander south like he was trying to before Olga pushed him aside.
Whatever it is, looks like some wetness this way comes…

I would like to think “this way comes” goes as far as SEQ. Those cyclones are a real mess aren’t they? Fancy trying to predict what will happen there.

yeah well 48 hours ago it was suggested that Nev would swallow up Olga, but that didn’t happen… so who knows what? Models are predicting falls of around 180mms for Townsville by week’s end???

We had a touch of rain yesterday – nice heavy drops, proper summer rain, but hardly any of it. Just checked this morning and it didn’t officially register in wherever it is they measure it, so it’s still no rain for Perth since November 20th!
Ex-TC Nev is set to hit between Townsville and Bowen tonight… an extreme weather warning has been issued and winds of 100kph and rainfall is expected.
But Olga is looking at bashing into Cooktown any moment now.

At 100k and hour there isn’t too much danger Pepe. Most places are built to withstand a lot more. A real cyclone can be very frightening. Fortunately I haven’t been in one for many years but you don’t forget what it’s like.

You would hog too if it happened to you (during your winter).
the Rain is getting heavier, and it is darker out there… might have to turn some lights on and its only 3pm???
bleak.
Its chucking down now…. the Neighbours Nylex is taking a hammering!
Looks like Friday is the day for Ex-TC Olga to head East and back towards Towntown. So today’s wetness is only a glimpse of what is to come…
Night of Noah part 2 anyone?
128mms in the past 55 hours.
check out the Satellite picture? Olga is awesome and there’s talk of several hundred mms of rain falling between now and Sunday!
officially 135mms in the last 48 hours…..
Ex-TC Olga looks like spinning up in the GOC and becoming a Cat 2 TC before chucking a U-Turn and heading back East.
No rain as I type, but more will come, the house feels wet, everything is damp, the relative stupidity is up there!

Think I’m starting to show signs of jealousy now. We can’t even rally a cloud down here. Skies are clear and blue and have been for days and days.
Can’t get outside to do much gardening. 31c @ 8am. Hydrangea, alamanda, dahlia etc are all drooping in the early heat.
On the up side. I luv the way some weeds give up the ghost and are easy to tug from the earth at a dry time like this.

well, an hour ago, I saw a patch of blue and I thought “might go off for a ride”… well a lump of grey and black sullied the sky and she has rained for the past hour. The neighbours nylex looks like he has another 8mm in there.
ok just checked the neighbours nylex. he empties it at 7am daily and the last 3 mornings have returned 31, 38, and 33mms, but the rain that came through this morning since 7am has already dumped 27mm.
the ground is wet.
Here’s confirmation….

Ex-TC Olga likely to be TC Olga mk2 tonight and then head East spinning up to a Cat3. If this heads due east, then we will get seriously wet but if it heads SE, then maybe some rain for the interiors and below us????

Saw the weather in Bahasa on TV last night. Can’t be sure if it was yesdy’s or today’s temps (they don’t seem to change anyway) but they went through about 20 centres around Indonesia. All were 25-31C, give or take ONE degree. Seriously.
But some had rain.

The PNG weather forecast was the same, all 24-31C with a rain cloud… even during the dry season. and all 18-25kt winds with seas 1.5-2m. Everyday.

It teemed down all afternoon… the official Townsville is 210mms in the last 81 hours.
The neighbours Nylex has easily 100mms in it since 7am this morn!

The Coral Sea. The two weirs in shots were built in the 1800s to slow the pace of the Ross River so that a series of wells could fill and the locals could have drinking water.
Further upstream is the Ross River Dam which is the longest earth wall dam in Australia at around 8kms long…

still raining btw…
231mms since Sunday and its still coming down… that’s for Townsville, but the Western Suburbs, many have had 130+ o’ernight… The airport has had around 330mm for the month.
it has rained all day. just drizzle with downpours every so often… I’m getting Vitamin D withdrawals…
officially 243mm since Sunday and the temp has not made it to 30C all week. I would like my summer back please.
Ex-TC Olga has still not spun up, and it looks like when she does, she will head south. That means more rain for others and less for me!
well the rain eased for 40 minutes…. I looked at the whipper snipper, he looked at the lawn mower, who looked back at me, I then looked at the fuel cans, who looked at the mower who looked at the whipper snipper who looked at me. I could hear the Carbon fouling up the sparkplug. The cord on the whipper snipper mysteriously started to unravel. The fuel can made a pop, you know that sound when the air pressure collapses somewhere…
but the rain came again.

>400mm of rain
That’s big rain in anyone’s books…
raining again….. my area has had over 2inches since 9am….

Locals getting around in plastic on the scooters which is a sure sign here. Feels coolish too. Won’t be 400mm but it might cool the place down and freshen it up.

I awoke this morning to silence, no rain on the roof… I thought you beauty. 5minutes later, down she came again.
just to let you know… it is TEEMING DOWN AGAIN….. I have to yell to he heard over the top of the rain.
Whooo oooh, the Ross Dam has gone from 60% (that’s 18months water supply) to 80% in the past three days.
My turf is loving it, but it desperately needs some sunshine… ground temps are cool because this morning became saturation point for the subsoil. There is no longer any air in my soil as all the gaps have been replaced with water. None of the pots are percolating the water through, the water is just spilling over the rim, nothing is bubbling out the drain holes.
If this keeps up, I may see some turf starting to rot and some pot plants starting to die, and it is far too dark to bring them inside. It is 9am and it feels like it is 9pm with the light outside!
Everything is wet, I’m wet, my hair is wet (getting curly too), my clothes are damp (in the cupboard too), the cupboard is damp (damn damp particle board)…

All the Tropic Cyclones have left the Building. Our Dam is at Full Capacity, not bad considering it were only 60% full on Wednesday.
In total for January, my Neighbour’s Nylex recorded 588mms which is almost one inch more than Lucky would get in an annual year.
