Most welcome:)
These go fast.
( can put shredded spinach in Luckys Egg and Bacon ones too :) )
3 sheets puff pastry, thawed
1/2 cup semi-dried tomatoes, well chopped
Handful fresh basil, chopped
1/3 cup cheddar or parmesan, finely grated
3 eggs
1/2 cup (125ml) sour cream
sea salt and pepper
Method
Preheat oven to 180 degrees C (350F/Gas mark 4)
Grease two tartlet trays with 12 holes in each tray.
Use a 7cm (3in) round cookie cutter to cut circles from the pastry then place into tartlet holes.
Combine the tomatoes, basil and cheese in a bowl then divide the mixture between pastry shells
Whisk together eggs and sour cream (and salt and pepper, if using) in another bowl then spoon a small amount into each pastry shell.
Carefully stir each of the tartlets to combine the filling and the eggy mixture.
Bake in preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Allow to cool.
To freeze: “Flash freeze” the tartlets on a tray lined with baking paper then transfer to a freezer bag or plastic container.

Yep, although they are obviously better fresh; it just depends on how much time you have up your sleeve and how much other stuff you have to do.

Yes best fresh , but I do freeze them on a tray, then pack into a large square tub, baking paper between layers and they keep well in the freezer. Or if only a day or so until they are eaten, store in the fridge.
Decided to only do 2 types of tart as I am getting a lot more out of the mixes than I expected

It’s probably just me!!
Never really ate biscuits at all until I had the money to go out and buy my own – and then it was usually mint slice :)
yes we never had bickies as a kid either, only ones where when I was with my foster Mum (family friend) when I lived with them and they where home made, a teddy bear was a treat !!

I grew up with homemade biscuits and cake……………….. it was easier to have that as our mail/food was sent by truck once a week and the road was long, dusty and corrugated. Also we didn’t get to pick the food and its quality.
same here lucky, only stuff we got delivered was in a packet or a can , rest was we grew or slaughtered.

Different in my house… my mum doesn’t have a sweet tooth at all, so she just never baked, except maybe for birthdays etc (I can’t remember, I have a terrible memory). When I was old enough to help with the shopping, I was allowed to buy packet cakes.. I don’t think it occurred to me to make a cake from scratch, because.. I’d never really seen it done! But the packet has a picture of cake on the front, so that’s what I asked for :)

Funny isn’t it how people are so different. My Mum baked all the time…I hardly remember a time there wasn’t a cake in thehouse. She never made the ones with icing on top tho and I just love icing.
So when I bake it’s gotta have icing.

I thought Mr Bon’s family was so weird, when I first started having dinner there.. his mum BAKES dessert for every meal!! It wouldn’t have been every meal when they were kids I guess, but now if any of the family is coming over for dinner – there’s dessert.
In my house it was fresh or tinned fruit, and help yourself to icecream. But mum would never bake a dessert because she wouldn’t have eaten it! I really appreciate it now – I’m not in the habit of having sweets and I’m too lazy to make anything like that for myself. I guess with someone else it could go the other way though – as soon as you have your own kitchen you might go nuts and have dessert all the time!!
My kitchen is my winding down area……………….. R&R in that area:)

I did also, grow up with home made everything, my mum was a chef. But if those iced vovo’s didn’t show up in the order box, it was look out. They were specially for visitors. And that was in SA outback where everything got delivered on the ‘tea and sugar’ train.

I rarely bake because it all gets eaten in one day, and none of us need the extra fat. LOL

My Mum made out pudding for christmas. She is an expert at them as well. This one was quite up to her usual standard but was still better than most other ones I have had. Not bad for a frail 81 year old (my baby brother helped her!). Trouble with Mum is she doesn’t follow a recipe as such….she just does it. I’m going to her place on Sunday. Will have to get her to write down what she does!

never heard of them. some sort of biscuit iced on one side is my wife’s dim recollection. i asked the pleasant looking barmaid if she was south australia – and yes but she has never heard of vo-vos so its official – they were never in sa.
You poor sozzies. Don’t know what you missed. Mind you I wouldn’t give a thank you if I was offered one today. Morning Pepe. I’m just passing through. Have a good Saturday.
morning pomolo.
now i want a vovo. ah well. our monopoly on intelligent barmaids will have to compensate.
lucky and elf got some pesto yesterday. that’s a good party food. the spanakopita is apparently good farty food – however since it has feta cheese in it i doubt this – more like bung hole really.
party was a success. I over catered and there is lots of stuff left over, the mini quiches were popular though. Will be eating cheese and chips all day methinks. The young ones entertained themselves with horror movies and playing on the Wii.
glad all went well :)
You still there Bev ??

>Awesome! Just discovered that Mr Bon has never heard of Iced VoVos either!! Maybe they just aren’t popular in WA??Maybe they were more popular before you were around Bon?
Could well be. I remember that book club evenings enabled a sneaky child to get hold of apricot squares, and that tasty chilli noodle party mix – but never VoVos.

I grew up with the story and belief that Iced Vo-Vos were as uniquely South Australian as Frog Cakes and that was why I never saw Iced Vo-Vos in Victoria…
