Happens in every generation. Growing up I had to contend with nuclear World War 3 and the complete destruction of the Barrier Reef by the crown of thorns, that the previous generation had bequeathed to me.

Yes, because as we all know, the fact that sometimes really bad possibilities don’t actually happen means that they never happen.

there is probably a logical fallacy for that type of thinking.

And they are right of course.

Unfortunately stupidity is inherited.

We still live in fear of a World War 111 with weapons even more devastating, now hopefully the likely participants have a better appreciation of the dangers. These days a dirty bomb detonated by some terrorist group is far more likely. The Crown of Thorns Sea Star is still ravaging the Barrier Reef and considerable effort and expense has been spent trying to control it. Please Note: such disasters have been averted after considerable time effort and money have been spent to do so. However these dangers still exist, but have been surpassed by even greater ones, where the solutions are far more difficult and require cooperation from all countries to act.

Humanity has never had to deal with such dangerous problems before and of which with the business as usual, we are not unlikely to overcome, hence your comparisons are currently without comparison as we continue to add one serious problem atop of another.

I think we need a global solution where each country has a regulating body that overseas each companies impacts on the environment.
