How wrong were they when they thought there were few if any dinosaur bones to be found in Australia. Surprising number of species that have turned up over recent years.

Australian dinosaur fossils don’t seem widely known compared to some of the more famous ones elsewhere, it wouldn’t really have been Australia then though different location and shape I imagine

Nice discovery. “Until this year we had no evidence of them in the Cretaceous at all, and as it turns out we now have one in Argentina, and this one at Cape Otway. And they are a good 30 to 40 million years younger than those Jurassic specimens.

Hardly.
More dinosaur bones and more variety of species have been found in a 100 metre square region of Montana than in the whole of Australia. The number of complete specimens from Australia can probably be counted on the fingers of one hand.
Wouldn’t you say?
That’s not to say that the skeletons aren’t here. It’s just finding them under the ground that’s the problem.
I wonder what the chances of being fossilised and surviving to be dug up are.
One out of many hundreds of thousands of death perhaps

There’s a whole science (sub-branch of paleontology) that studies taphonomy – the processes behind and statistics of fossilisation. And, the chances are generally very low. But not always.

We have not been digging them up because it was thought few if any were to be found here. In recent years we have added large numbers of species to the list of Australia Dinosaurs. Think you are comparing apples with oranges!
