Yippee. I can get rid of that bloody capslock key. It’s nothing but a pain. There are half a dozen extra keys I want on my keyboard. A ± and → key for starters. Ideally a key that switches to bold, to italic, to greek italic text, to superscript, to subscript.

Lots of keys on my keyboard remain totally unused. Insert, end, pause/break, scroll lock, and the entire numeric keypad for starters. The second shift key, all but three of the function keys are available.

Only trouble is that I have light-up keys that glow in the dark. How to customise them.

IIUC, Unix has allowed keymapping since the very earliest days.

Bulk image resizer – yes please.
Ditto bulk file renamer.
Better search facility – yes.

FancyZones.
In Windows 3.11, I setup my desktop divided into zones. One zone for image/multimedia applications, one for shortcuts to active documents, one for word/excel/powerpoint/notepad/wordpad/calculator, one for personal+games, one for browsers+google_earth, one for utilities. That’s something I really missed when it was lost in going to Windows XP.

All these ought to come standard, not be bolt on extras. Calling them “toys” is a travesty, they’re utilities.

Better search facility?

In what way better?

I find searching my local drives from File Explorer fast and the results are usually much better than searching on-line (because my local drives only have stuff I’m interested in).

I use Total Commander for most of my file management needs, but if I need to search for text within a file, or even to search a whole disk for a specific file name, the File Explorer search is way better.

But you do need to switch on file indexing.

Yes. Besides all they are doing is testing beta versions.

To delay the download of a new version of Windows 10, use these steps:

Open Settings.

Click on Update & Security.

Click on Windows Update.

Click the Advanced options link.

Under the “Pause Updates” section, use the drop-down menu to select how long you want to delay updates.
