It will come as no surprise to Perthites, as we swelter through heatwave after heatwave, that this has been declared the hottest Perth summer ever, with an average temperature of 32 degrees celsius. It has rarely dropped below 30, and when it has it has only been for a day or two before soaring up into the mid – high 30’s again, with multiple runs of five or six days 40 and over. Sleeping has been difficult, with minimum temperatures around the mid 20’s.

Today (Thursday) was 35, but spare a thought for those of us who work outdoors tomorrow when it will reach 38! Again!

The next week will be a welcome reprieve from the high 30’s:
Sat 30, Sun 30, Mon 32, Tues 30, Wed 29, Thurs 30 and night time minimums in the teens.

I’ve actually found the ceiling fan to be ineffective in these temps, as heat rises, and the fan seems to blow hot air down on you. I’d keep the air con and the desk fan and leave the ceiling fan for only moderately hot temps Veg.

I tend to leave my ceiling fan on med-low for the dogs when I’m at work, just to move some air around for them. Today I left the air con on for them for the first time, the spoilt buggers. I figure Kuges deserves some comfort at 15 years old and I knew it was going to be a stinker. I can’t seem to get my head around leaving the air con on all night though, it seems so wasteful and environmentally unfriendly, so I just have my pedestal fan on, but the air has already been cooled from having the air con on in the evening.

desk fan on face, laying under ceiling fan, air con on low, me and a few boys at work seem to run the fans and air cons the most.

Thank god I drive my car all day! – after a while I sweat so much I have my own swimming pool. Fun until you can’t see where are you going anymore yet I know the truck in front will always stop me. Pete

Remember BG this is very dry heat.

Yes the tar melts, birds fall out of the sky, but at least it is not humid..

Our tar melts too. Our street over the last week actually. I haven’t noticed any birds fall from the sky though. Humidity is our blessing most of the time. It means things aren’t parched dry because there is still moisture around. I makes my hair wavy again. That 24/7/365 dry of the south blesses me with stiff straight hair..unmanageable. Lips crack, skin goes scaly. A never quenchable thirst. No siree! I like my humid north.

You must be noticing the humidity in Bali Collie. Lucky you’re only on a holiday.
