That’s quite a can of worms.
The words “reduction of cognitive dissonance” comes to mind.
Consider for instance, someone who for personal reasons wanted to become a Christian. How to do that?
Or some student perhaps who wanted to be convince themselves that relativity is correct. How to do that?
There’s the innate need for certainty, it can be very uncomfortable psychologically not believing an anything.
“The long quest” is a quest for the correct answer in a religious world. A quest that is valuable while it lasts, but should never end.
I can’t help trying all this into the desire to be convinced that the end of the world is just around the corner.
Do such convictions offer a meaning of life, no matter how shallow?

Mouth around Cardinal Pell’s member?
ah, the Catholick

I wonder if persistent unconclusion has always been so, that a mind’s work in progress might perhaps become as extended quiet periods went in a car with traveling children courtesy Dickens’ boredom
I’m convinced that the world is whatever it is, and that I will die with limited understanding of these matters.

That word now has deeper connotations.

Is this about creation?
Consider these statements
We live within the universe, people are within the universe, not separate from it.
Convince me that the universe is God
Convince me that the universe is the universe and is not something else
Convince me that we are within the universe and are a part of it, not separate entities that can freely leave it.
How will you convince me?, with logic?, with facts?, opinion?, pictures, words?, diagrams?, mathematics?, physics?, science?, observation and validation? information?, knowledge ?
or made up stuff about nothing that exists at all?
Some use false information, physical and or emotional violence, coercion and bias to convince others….
Some use science to convince others.
Some use science to convince others.
Some use religion to convince others.
Some like scientology use pseudoscience to convince others
Some use emotions and charm to convince others
9.1mm rain, lady just did the read, tipped it out and writ it up, all official

To be truly official the rain should be read at 9am.
Is the rain level allowed to be partially official or nearly official ?

often the rain gauge is read but not tipped out, because that lot of rain is considered to have perhaps not ended, a sort of progress report, but when a rain event is considered to have passed, then the gauge is read and rain tipped out of the gauge, and the amount written up, the official report has an entry in the rain diary

Sort of.
I have an ORB that I measure at 9am (or thereabouts).

it gets more complex when there aren’t really distinguishable ends to rain events, so anytime really, between showers, the important thing is it adds up, is accurate, has an accompanying date, and as things go the weather lady here is quite good like that
give her a tape measure though with inches on one side and centimetres on the other, helping measure something to do an order for materials, a person might only do that once and resolve to do all the measuring themselves thereafter
