I’m quite happy to keep them indefinitely, but if people would prefer I can clear them out monthly.

Some things that Iâve thought of/noticed:
Like BG says I would like the font/colour of the previos holiday forum. Easier on the older eyes I think
yay it lives …what monster have we created now :)

hi drylander :)
can the Gardening forum have the same font style as the Holiday forum please :)
Fixed. It was just a typo in the style sheet for this forum.
A fixed width text box for entering posts. It’s pretty narrow in the 5-forum HyperForum.
I knew there was something else. Can the post number be displayed in the post window? This would be useful for people wanting to refer people back to information in previous posts.

nested quotes to boot ;-)
looks very nice
actually i like the quote button-but it does need to be used with some care.
ive seen some forums where the nesting became a `little’ extreme, with almost all the thread in the quotes

Someone’s going to have to draw the line and stop pressing Quote though (or trim out some old quotes), otherwise it’s going to get ridiculous.
yeah i normally use it when i am trying to help some1 and adding to what that person said =)

nah- you reckon???
;-)
yeah may be with we just do 2 quotes or something or even if we answering some1’s question we just do is in different posts
you can also edit out some of the replies so only the last persons quote appears(just delete all the other quotes inside)
yes

yep, need to be able to cull out all the unnecessary stuff…
wooah! the type box shrunk!
this is alot different from our old home (starts to think i wounder how that did happen….why it closed down).

it was old and I gather the code wasn’t as good then. or something may have crashed on the server it was on. this one is on a different server now.
the old holiday inn is still there, but its crashed atm, and the people who hosted it dont seem to be around atm
cb88 wrote the original holiday inn as well(that was a while ago lol) and mattv’s son hosted it on his server(or was it michealv??)

yeah
what about emoticons and such like?
actually one thing i like about the baut forum i hang out at, is there is a `report post’ button
handy for reporting spam and stuff like that to a mods email
good for getting rid of that nastyier spam that was appearing on the old forum
(thats assuming cb88 wanted to get into modding himself or set it up so a small number of regulars could delete posts- or just ignore it as was happening at the old holiday inn)

would be good for controlling trolls too…

thats a slippery slope- not everyone agrees on trollish behaviour; that would require full time mods.
I was thinking more of the obvious spam threads that often had rather offensive bits in the thread titles
maybe the very first post of a new thread could have a report spam button for `those’ threads
bluegreen said:

I don’t like them much. I think text emoticons are fine as they are.

Maybe, but I’ll wait until it becomes an issue first.

There’s an admin interface that I can use for deleting posts and can also give other users access to quite easily.
Appointing community members as moderators never seems to work well in my experience…

For exactly that reason.

fair enough :)
no need at present but just something to keep in mind once the spambots find this place(unfortunately they seem to be a fact of life these days)
another forum i frequent got around it by not allowing newly registered members to post new threads until they had ten posts under their belts
just throwing ideas up in the air atm ;-)
speaking of registration, is it going to be implimented here like the old holiday inn?
i like the fact that unregistered users can post, but what happens if people get imped(is that even possible as the way the software is currently setup??)
my husband runs a phpbb forum and has found an excellent way of filtering out spam-bots – it is part of the registration process and involves identifying certain pictures in a collection and the pictures change each time and various ways so that there is no discernible pattern. Since he has implemented it he hasn’t had any get through. And any pictures can be used.

I didn’t think there was much point in having guest access. People can just register, it’s not very hard (yet). I’ll probably put email address verification on at some point.
And if everyone has to register, there can’t be any impersonating.

I’ll keep that in mind for when we start having problems.
Perhaps when a user accesses http://tokyo3.org/forums/ then it should list the available forums?

Yeah, that’s what I had planned. Just haven’t done it yet :)
Ooh, there’s a thing, all this talk of registering and not having guest posters…we don’t have little ®’s next to our names any more.
Oh, that quoting is to die for CB88, Thank you so much! It got a little confusing sometimes on the old forum because it didn’t have the name so when you got to the fourth quote or so, you forgot who the quotes were from, or person B would quote person A and you’d think “Wow, I missed that the first time around, well said but no idea who said it!”
On that note, the post id numbers are really helpful if the pages skip when you refresh manually while playing catchup, I often found I’d skip a whole page or just have one or two posts ‘drop off’ without realising until I found things quoted that I’d not read the first time around. Had wondered vaguely why the train of thought had altered so much…:D
After a while I started checking the post id numbers every time I clicked on ‘later posts’
Of course this might not happen now, or it could just be my computer!
Emoticons…there is only one I really miss on the non-emoti forums, but they can be overused and annoying too, and people become so reliant on them that if you don’t have three grins and a wink, they think you’re in a bad mood or being mean!

i’m only a few days behind – please bear with me
this forum has slowed down to a snails pace in the last 24 hours
Yeah I have noticed this too. I figured it was cos’ tokyo was a tad bit away from us;)
I have a suggestion but not sure if it is technically feasible the way the site is set up.
Would be handy to be able to bookmark a link which defaults to View By Time rather than View By Topic – so instead of bookmaking “http://tokyo3.org/forums/gardening/” we could bookmark something like “http://tokyo3.org/forums/gardening/index.asp?view=bytime”
(I’m an ASP coder so I only know how it would be done in ASP – don’t know if it’s possible in this particular case)

That one’s just this forum and holiday forum (which doesn’t seem to get much activity now). I was suggesting it for the View by Time view on startup with the topics down the bottom. :o)
Just wait until one of the Science Forums goes down … hehehehe … :)
cyaz later on … again … and this is in my garden this mrning .. bellowing for all he is worth because he has two koalas cornered … a mother and baby. :)
