Subject: Possums and Solutions...

Now I don’t have a vegie bed yet, but I have P1 and P2, the resident possums of Mangolia and I believe they could be a handful in the future.

Would bird netting stretched over polypipe hoops provide a solution?

What’s ya thoughts?

yeah – a population count would be interesting – they are not endangered in my opinion.

probably 25mm aviary wire (small weldmesh or chicken wire) would be more effective then birdnetting. these are heavy creatures and they would make a mess of netting IMHO.

If you keep the possums out with netting, you will still be allowing other pests such as fruitfly into your area and you’ll want to net them out as well.
Might as well do the lot first time.
Pick an open area where you can easily build a structure over the whole area.
Leonie Norrington built a corker on GA a couple of months back, out of insect proof netting, agricultural water pipe and wire.
Fruit trees are another story all together. I’d suggest you only purchase dwarfed varieties, so they are easier to cover and make a movable frame or two to put over them as required.
It takes a bit of planning and research but is a long term solution.

Or you could train the possums to eat fruitfly!

Sorry. This option is not my speciality.
