Subject: I-pad reset

I know it’s a long shot, but…

..i’ve ‘inherited’ and I-pad. Quite legit, i assure you.

However, i can’t get the passcode etc.

Now, there’s a thing called 4ukey which i’ve used to eliminate the numeric password to it. This also obliterates all of the data on it, so there’s no breach of privacy possible.

All i want to do is set it back to out-of-the-box condition.

I now run up against the ‘activation lock’ which wants a recognised e-mail address and a password.

Can’t get those.

Anyone here got any ideas, please?

Inherit another iPad ;).

It’d help if the person you inherited it from delinked said iPad from their account.

I was thinking of something else where you could reset it by doing something similar… and now I can’t remember what that thing was. but it was definitely not a I device.

you can try connecting it to iTunes through the computer and reset it from there. force it into recovery mode.

Or you could just throw it out and get an Android tablet.

Well at least it doesn’t puncture the microphone, which it would on a Lenovo pad.

Possibly an even longer shot, but it worked with Lenovo, is keep it operating until the battery is dead flat.
Then charge up to fully charged. Then keep operating until the charge has dropped just a little.
Then press the keys that get it into bios and reset from bios options.

Doesn’t holding down the power button and the home button together for 10 seconds or so perform some form of reset?

yes but you need to have the code still because that is a ‘soft reset’ … BUT if you do that while it is plugged into itunes it will factory reset it

That seems a bizarre function of iTunes. Does that mean any crim can reset any stolen iPad?

As they say in the criminal community, “it just works.”

yes, but it resets to factory settings so cannot get to any ‘personal’ information

if you need to do this for yourself you can reinstall using the cloud that you have the password and the email addy for… as long as you back up regularly…

I guess apple believe that the information on the device is more important than the device itself. they can’t stop theft, but they can stop people from getting to your information.

it still breathes using a ventilator because people need to download music on their phones and reset locked devices.

back in the day you used to have to connect to iTunes on your computer to back shit up and update and stuff… but the cloud saved us all from doing that… even on this Mac I don’t use iTunes ever…

The short answer is: you can’t. Because that’s the point of it.

You might have to look into something called jail breaking the iPad. Why can’t the previous owner unlock/deactivate it for you?

Well, someone at work dumped it in the electronic waste box.

I asked what was wrong with it, they said don’t know, it was my daughter’s. I said, if i can get it working, i’ll give it back to you. They said no, you can have it if you want. I though, hey, at least it’s a spare screen glass for the ipad at home.

And now i can’t remember who it was who dumped it.

It seems to be quite ok. AFAIK, the pass-number code had been wiped via 4ukey, along with any pics or other files on it, but the verification thing is in the bloody ‘cloud’ so i need to get past that.

You may have to find that person again?
