Morning HP. Nice piece of advice there from GA :)

Can’t wait to see your garden on the show!!
——————————————————-

Me too Bonn!! LOL.

And pasted from another reply from Andrea :

“ And we would love to have more potential gardens to look at! Tell your friends they can send to my email directly if they like. The story will go to air on 17th & 18th April.”

I have Andrea’s email addy for whomever would like it.
Even if you think your garden’s not worthy. I thought mine wasn’t.

There surely will be , but not for the film crew.
They saw cakes ready to be collected and did ask about them so I told them that I cook and worked in the foodie area for many years. But they said not to feed the crew , they bring, or will get, their own.
What I cook will be for my visitors for the day :)

Still, theres not many who can resist a luscious chocolate cake..

Back now..doctors for me.. it seems Max wasn’t the only one to suffer from cleaning and stirring up my garden. No I didn’t get bitten by anything, I got a nasty sinus infection , probably from all the dust I’ve swept and mulch I’ve moved.
On meds for that now.

I visited my local plants nursery to get some winter seedlings, told them about the GA filming, and they are absolutely delighted about it.
I reckon half my plants are from their nursery, at least all of the mini orchard is. So they gave me a couple metal dragonfly wall ornaments !! One larger green and a smaller red. They’re gorgeous! How nice was that !
I can’t wait to get them up on the fernery fence :)

nice to see they’re caring about one of their customers. The ABC will unfortunately edit out the name of said Nursery if you happen to name-drop/plug.

I have often thought about putting something in my garden as a special feature. I almost bought a figure of a swaggie once but changed my mind. Lately I have been thinking of creating something out of stones. Once I saw a tree trunk that had the shape of a nymph carved into it. I loved it but it was way out of my price range. I have even thought about those dragonfly thingys(lucky you) but it’s all still out there.

Don’t you land yourself in bed bed on the big day HP.

The film crew and a couple support people will be here in just over an hour to start. Mr Ryan arrives a little later.

I did a check of house and gardens to see if everything was in order. It was. Except for my front door. Eek. The security door was fithy..I dashed out with bucket of soapy water, yard broom and hose. All clean. The steel door , which has a small leadlighting feature at the top , was clogged with leaves and grimy dirt and you couldn’t see the lil red leadlight feature. Something I never noticed. All clean now.
My garden is ho hum to me as I see it daily ,but I am assured and my spirit’s lifted, by the garden clubs nice comments of how it looks to them. They couldn’t get over how orderly it is. Well inside the house is often chaotic, so something has to be orderly around here!
Brekky for me now> 20 coffees. And feed whatever else has a mouth.

See yas later.

Mines the same. I never knew there were so many leaves under the door mat till I had to open the door to a visitor. Shame! Shame! Ahame!

Woohoo! what fun we’ve had already :D
They are a great bunch of people and so funny. They have taken off to the main street eateries for lunch, one hour, then filming resumes. Mr Ryan is a lovely bloke.
The cake went down very well with the crew. In fact they said they will have to come back next week and do this again just for the cake lol.

Scenes were going great, but had to be cut and re shot as a truck rumbled past. That happened often as there is a new quarry a few klms out and the trucks are frequent. I told this lot, thanks for pointing that out, I shall never enjoy my garden again because now I’m aware of the traffic noise! LOL!

Off to have a tomada sanger and cuppa.
Hubby stayed around and got some odd pics of it all. I will upload them later.

it all sounds fairly relaxed – altho’ slow and tedious to shoot. funny how 5 hours reduces down to five minutes on the teev.

Right, they have all left now. What a blast that was! :D
A great experience, I can tell you!!!
Having two blokes wire me up for sound was a hoot lol..they undid the top button on my shirt and didn’t have a care in the world about attaching the thing to the top of my bra!! The other bloke pulled up the back of my shirt to hook the battery pack to my waistband! I was being man -handled left and right!
My shirt was making a rustling noise so the bloke was back in an instant to correct that with a tiny piece of lambswool over the mic. It fell off at one stage and I held it up and told them I’m losing body parts lol. I can’t tell you about it all in one post , but will in snippets over days. (plus I’ve only had about 2 hours sleep over the past 2 nights , I can’t think straight atm!)
I was given a plant, it’s beautiful, forgot it’s name already, umm hang on, got the tag now ‘Polymnia Sonchifolia’ a Yacon, Peruvian root vegetable..I think. It grows and divides like a Dhalia. It looks like a Dahlia. I’ll find some recipes and see what I can come up with next season as in a pot it can’t develop decent sized roots.

They thanked me heaps for filling in the application and that my garden was well worth it :)

I’ll be back tonight as hubby and I are escaping for a couple hours to unwind. That’s if I don’t fall asleep ..

Suspect they might have done it before and they were matter-of-act about it!

Point is.. you allowed it all so I suspect you enjoyed it all as well.

We had a ball :D

Those moment’s when we had to stop and wait for traffic noise to abate, we were having friendly jabs at one another. Mr Ryan couldn’t remember the names of a couple of my plants and I remarked ‘ don’t you know anything Mr Plant man ? lol!

He loved Lin Lin the white silkie , said she looked like Dame Elizabeth Taylor all respendent in her mink coat ready to join in the shoot. I let her out and the man was holding her for a while.

I did mention our forum. I also said I understood why we were booted out, too chatty and going off topic, but as you do..gardening is as much about the person behind it as what they grow. ect. But I said it was wrong the way they did it, they could have given us another thread , maybe unlisted but available for those who did like the banter , to continue our waffling on in, and Mr Ryan agreed! The production manager lady said it might get back to that..one day. And that it was the mods fault! lol

At least I had my say, and I took the opportunity to speak for myself and us. (I hope that was ok!)

I have to say my bit here. Stephen Ryan may be lovely but he looks awful. I do not like the stubble. My dictionary describes “stubble” as the short stalks left in a field where corn has been harvested. I can’t understand why men think that look is attractive. Maybe it’s my age showing again.

don’t you hate the way the flyscreen door at the front seems to get dirty. i checked mine out a while ago and i had no idea how dirty it was. i rarely use the front door and i must have my eyes closed when i do.

Mines the same. I never knew there were so many leaves under the door mat till I had to open the door to a visitor. Shame! Shame! Ahame!

It’s probably all over by now but hope all goes/went well for the GA visit. No leaves under your door mat I hope.

Woohoo! what fun we’ve had already :D

BBL

Awesome!

chuckle – i grow a beard in winter but the skin beneath the moustache gets deprived of sun so i go clean shaven in the summer.

the cleaner will arrive soon. i have done my routine of whipping all the rugs and blankets in the wind. i give them an almighty flick in the air and cover myself in dust. the dust cloud from the biggest rug forms an entity and drifts across the neighbourhood.
anyrate i have a segue – beneath the rug a shadow of dust forms on the floor which disappears when the floor is cleaned and the rug beaten – therefore wash the beard often. not a good segue – i need a coffee.

I shave a couple times a year… but I bought an electric hair trimming thing, so when I don’t have a Ned Kelly Beard happening, I have stubble.

I actually don’t find the unshaven stubble that off putting.. but I did ask ‘ did you forget to shave?’ (lol, bold of me). But he said the editors want him to look like a gardener..that ‘rustic man of the land’ look.

However, I find that rather sexist. Women really are expected to look good all the time.

I was talking to Stephen about this and the production manager quickly came over having overheard. So I cont’ the convo with her, Stephen listening in, and I got the definate feeling I was talking directly to the ‘mother ship’ as she knew all about it. But she was nice about it and understood.

Now for some snippits of chatting with Stephen..
My Frangipanni doesn’t have rust, it has a mite and he told me to spray it with condifor..done. The affected leaf won’t come good but new growth should be fine.

He’s no idea why my cyclamen is in full flower in the wrong season.. these things just happen. Same for an azalea and a couple rhodys.

We didn’t discuss my tomatoes on camera , because as Stephen said ‘there’s an issue with them’ lol! It was because they aren’t staked properly and they must only show good healthy growing looked after veges lol.
The mini orchard however, was a real hit.

We had several chances to just sit and chat whilst the film crew took plant close ups or did sound tests, whatever they were, and did we laugh!
At one stage the photographic subjects wern’t required for about half an hour, but we had to be quiet, no talking at all. So we sat in silence on the patio. Except not talking to your guests is awkward, so we started miming!. This was myself, Stephen, hubby ,giant son, case manager (who’d just brought gs back home having deemed the kid was now in a fab mood) and one camerman. We had to stifle laughs with hands over our mouths lol. Someone farted and that was it! we all made for the carport to laugh loudly LOL!

We aso had to stop the filming being done of Stphen and I on the arbour seat amongst the cactus. Stephen asked me what was the name of the barrel cactus and I replied ‘mother in laws cushion’.
CUTTT!
LOL! Of course it wasn’t that but I didn’t know because I’d forgotten to look at the plant tag I had in my hand, LOL! , cameraman had to have a couple minutes compose himself after that one.

I think a man going bald and his hair cropped close to the scalp is very sexy.

Better than a comb over. LOL

it was more than ok – brave in fact – and the truth – we did ramble but their forum is dead without that rambling.

Thank you Pepe :)

I was talking to Stephen about this and the production manager quickly came over having overheard. So I cont’ the convo with her, Stephen listening in, and I got the definate feeling I was talking directly to the ‘mother ship’ as she knew all about it. But she was nice about it and understood.

I always blamed bloke Tim Mitchell for the forum’s break-up as it happened directly after I’d spoken to him at Pete’s luncheon. He referred to us going “off topic” and talking half the night.

Fancy that! Whatever makes them think that facial stubble and a long sleeved shirt makes him look like a gardener?

I agree bubba, there’s no way he went out deliberately to cock up the mess he has now created. The whole system has failed and when blame should be placed on the guys doing the bodgy jobs, a Minister who in all reality is far removed from the actual hands on part is now the scapegoat. Mines the same. I never knew there were so many leaves under the door mat till I had to open the door to a visitor. Shame! Shame! Ahame!

ROFLPIMP!!!

They should really put together an out-takes video of you day with the film crew, and put it on the website to show everyone how fun it is, and get more people to volunteer!!

———————————————
They did film funny bits , but I dare say the ABC don’t have bloopers type shows ?. I’ve never seen any from them.

There was a moment when Stepen and I were walking down the path side by side, but it’s a narrow path and a lemon tree branch hit him, lol..re did the same scene and Max dashed past me nearly knocking me over and I grabbed the camerman..

But funniest of all was giant son…he was milling about watching the goings on and hubby handed him my camera and said he can take some pics. The boy instantly goes into ‘High Fashion Photographer’ mode..OMG , he started snapping pics of the production manager lady and she responded by acting the part of a model. GS was saying “ yeah baby look this way, twirl around thats it thats it beautiful yeah yeah the camera loves ya baby!!” he was getting on the ground shooting fast from all angles and bouncing all over the place we were doubled over laughing! LOL!
Production manager was having a blast playing the part! lol. The rest of us were out of breath from laughing!

When they left she gave GS a big hug and told him that today she’d had the best fun!

We’re still giggling about it lol. I signed a release form saying I allow them to show my home and whomever appears in the shoot, but I said except sons bit. She agreed.

Well it was fun , heaps of fun, and I’m really glad I did it. Had GA to my house to film my garden! A goody for the auto biog, lol.

But I’m relieved it’s over too. I can go back to dirty paths and not sweeping up after the chooks, and staying in my nightie half the day. And the front screen door can resume its dirt gatherer role, in peace.

I love looking at my monitor and seeing what yous are up to today :)

You go girl! Will be interesting to see if they take any notice of what you said about the forum

Well I wondered if there’s a ‘look’ for women who garden ..

Feel free to offer what that look would be lol ..

G’day HP. I’ve just read the entire thread from go to wo.
Must admit i haven’t had much inclination to get involved in the forum of late. Bit busy.
However, knowing the effort you put into everything, day after day, making the rest of us feel we are mere mortals and wondering where the heck you get you energy, i can honestly say reading this thread and seeing and hearing the enjoyment you had today was a real treat.
Might even watch GA in a week or two, tho i reckon you’ve already showed and told us the best bits.
Goodonya. Well done. Take 37 seconds off and rip back into it:-)
You really are an inspiration HP.
Thanks.

Hehe, thank goodness we all have different taste, or there’d be 10 men in high demand and a whole bunch of lonely guys! :D

I think muscley types like Jamie Durie look too much like my brother.. and that’s creepy!

now if it was Richard it would be a different matter eh bon?

:D

(although actually it’s not just Richard – I’m a complete fangirl, there’s a pretty long list!! :))

She agreed.

what a riot. The sad bit is… I feel as if all of us should be sitting around someone’s garden while HP regales us all with this tales; instead we are all looking at monitors like Percy was earlier.

Maybe one day?

It would be good to share the fun all at the same time.

Most impressed by it actually.
It is about 1.5m high and grows from a single root system. I have been bandicooting the roots for tucker. Very sweet and very juicy.
Have a gander here for some info. Should be the same critter. Maybe…

Mine is delish. I have noticed if the root is hard skinned, then it is not as juicy. Maybe exposure to light does this. The roots which are really swollen are so sweet and juicy.

I had a call from GA research girl, they wanted to identify plants in my garden as they are editing the shoot now. She assured me it’s going to be really cool. :D
I was asked “whats that tree in the mini orchard with lots of green fruit on?”
Meyer lemon..
I hear whooping in the background and “I won!!, I knew it was a lemon!”
“And what’s the double ones at the front of that bed..?” Nectarine on the left and the right is a peach…
“Oooo I got that one wrong, I thought it was a pear and a plum”
“ and that Roast Lamb plant ?” Rosemary.

LOL

Methinks Stephen should line em up for gardening lessons lol..

Faints..
I just got the GA newsletter email and what it says about my garden, thus;

“Coralee’s Garden: Stephen Ryan drops in on a gardener who has created an amazing fernery, mini orchard and vegetable patch and has only been gardening for five years.”

Not 100% correct. I’ve been gardening for longer, but I was asked how long did it take to create the garden here, and I replied only about 5 years.
I created the front garden 5 years ago, it was just a dead lawn, and that really was the start of me getting out there and making something of the garden, other than having a few big pot plants on the patio. I got a bloke with a bobcat in and he levelled it completely. I did the rest. Once I finished the front I started on the back, paths and pond dictated the back garden.

Not that it’ll ever be ‘finished’.

Mind you, when my email about the saffron, and pics, was passed onto the tv bloke , he said I have 10 green fingers! LOL.

close enough :) you have only been doing that particular garden for 5 years.

The yucon is triple the size of the plant I was handed in the pot on filming day. I haven’t given it any ferts apart from seasol when I planted it out, but it’s healthy enough.

Hardly ! lol cleaning all done, and I’ve been cutting the uber cheap gained cotton blankets into 150 cleaning cloths. I will overlock them next week when I get the machine back from a service. That will do me for a few years!

Going out for tea to the snazzed up pub. Hubbys got the cd thingy set up to record.

Thanks I will.
And wont snot the papparazi.

I couldn’t even take the overlocker to the sewing shop without getting asked about it by a total stranger, when I had to spell out my name for the service order form for the partially deaf old dear behind the counter…

LOL! that was cool!

Thanks all for nice comments :)
I’m so glad I did this filming now (I wasn’t so sure at the start). The phone calls I have been getting, and emails! ,wonderfully encouraging comments.

I do have one ‘grumpy old woman’ type friend, who wrote in an email ,” that was great, but you didn’t tell them about your $500 a week seasol addiction!”

ROFL!

(really, she loves me to bits)

But yes it was too short. Stephen did say they will edit it to pieces and he was right. The talk with Stephen on the cactus garden seat was cut, as was a longer part about the shed mosaic, and they spent an hour filming the chooks! I spoke about how valuable they are as helpers to the garden and gardener overall, but there was none of it. No fish pond scene and how I re use the pond water on the mini orchard, and how it re fills from a slight slope in the path to direct rainwater to it.
And the 2 areas surviving mainly on greywater, the lawn and the fernery. When Stephen handed me my yacon gift plant..ect.

Thats got me thinking, I would love to do a sort of ‘My garden Story’, a short burl on it’s history and the dramas, yep, I had a garden drama happen. Insignificant now, but back at the time it was devastating.

And of course the good bits! Like when my garden was on TV! hehe.

I might start on this soon :)

I’m really disappointed that the cactus discussion was cut though – just the thought of that “mother in law’s cushion” quip gives me the giggles, even though it never would have made it on to the screen :)

Aw thank you Bonn :) But, me professional ? Not a hope. That was the one thing I worried about. I have a terrible speech impediment , my mouth trips over the words and I get all fumbly and mumble with the words to say. I often leave the sentence open so others can finish what I’m struggling to get my mouth to say, but on this ocassion I couldn’t do that! lol.
But I was pleased with it, it wasn’t really bad or that obvious on the day. I don’t let it hold me back from doing somthing though.

The talks I have given to the banders groups on weight loss are ok in general, but I have had some very ‘word searching’ embarrassing moments. But thats in front of a live audience and I can turn it into something funny. TV is stressful!

HAHAHA. Yeh, Mr Bon can show the plants he has stood on, the plants he has broken by throwing dog toys at ‘em, and the holes in the mulch where he plays with the dog :) I kid, because he has been a massive help on the difficult jobs, but he’s not a willing helper :D

He just meant that he doesn’t speak smoothly – he has to pause for aaaaaaaaaages while he’s deciding what to say next. It drives me a bit mad because I always stay silent until I’ve worked out what I’m going to say, so that I can get it all out in one go :D

Is that what it was? I wondered, because you were articulate but there seemed to be a blockage…MrD had a stutter, could hardly speak until he was 12, and I’ve had 2 offspring inherit this impediment…he’s excellent in a “role” but sometimes when he’s passionate about something the mm-mmm-mmm starts up…one of the “cheats” they use, without realizing it, is to choose words that they know they’ll be OK with, resulting in some odd and often inaccurate choices…

Absolutely Dinetta. It’s the sort of stuff I’d want to hear. (when it’s not me up there!)
A sort of Kevin Hinze show, hands on and directed at the home gardener, is needed. I do miss that bloke. Well what Pete used to do too. Now it’s more of an entertainment piece with a few snippets of gardening advice.

And it needs to go for 2 hours! lol.

It’s very annoying, especially as it holds people back from speaking and doing fun things like I just did! It was a blast doing the GA filming and I’m really glad I did it.
And I’m very happy that my friends in here enjoyed it :D
My family are over the moon about it all. Giant son wanted my autograph! and he wasn’t happy until he got it! LOL.

If I want to do something though, out of the ordinary and at times I think, beyond my scope or ability, I won’t let a silly thing like a speech impediment stop me.
With speaking to a live audience I have a note pad with points I want to make, added scribbled snippets of things I think I might forget, I am much more articulate. I have lot’s more to say on the mosaicing than I thought I would have , and the fact that I am so inexperienced with it only makes it better. My enthusiasm about it will be on full throttle :)

My admiration grows every time I read your posts.

the book is lifelong, and I’ve years to go yet!

But a short brief of my garden and its origins would be good (for friends and family who would be interested )

but can you sit still long enough? and when will you get the time….?

‘Can’t’ is negative. ‘Can’ is fun!

How easy would it have been for me to say “of course I couldn’t do that (ga thing) because I’m not well spoken”.

Yes, when I can’t sleep, Drs waiting rooms, and when I’m hiding out in the fernery, lol

bows to the garden goddess

- the layout to create spaciousness got a good wrap
- as did horse manure
- and i liked your answer – about how you escape to the garden for solitude. i think a lot of people do that.

well done.

Are there any little helpful snippets that I can use when it’s my poor slow brain that won’t come up with the word when I want it. It’s an age thing for me and I hate it. Sometimes I feel like a dork

———————————————————————
Well if you’re a dork, I’m a worse dork. I don’t know any snippets that will get you through a brain fog , or a case of mouth disengaging with brain, I just waffle on or add in stupid things. So there, you can feel good.
I know a few other dorks too :P

Dorks unite!!

I’ll drink to that.

I could use a stiff drink right now. Just when I think the bank balance is getting under control all my major appliances decide to gang up on me.

LOL! that was cool!

Like when my garden was on TV! hehe.

I might start on this soon :)

perhaps someone should nominate you to Australian Story and your garden bit could be included as a place of solace whilst dealing with raising a Son with Autism??? You’d get more than 5 minutes there???

BTW, fantastic segment on GA, I really like the fact they are showing more Australian Gardeners and their Gardens in recent time. Much more honest and appealing then those blitz style programs sponsored by a big hardware chain….
