Yes, that meme does miss the point.
Feminism is quite rightly regarded as progressive, an improvement on how people used to perceive and behave towards each other.
Swimming fish are just behaving instinctively. It’s not instinctive for humans to embrace equalitarian ethics. It’s been a long struggle to advance as far as we have.
I used to think I was extremely cynical.
Before I discovered memes.

Yes those were the days when we had moral and social compases, days when we knew what was right and wrong.
Now we are just spiriling into a whirlpool of uncertainty and chaos where truth is arbitrary.
There will arise a new battle between good and evil, a battle where both sides will thing they are the good.

I’m trying to remember…I think you only used “sincerely” if you knew the person well. If it was a formal letter, or to someone you didn’t know well, you used faithfully. Hang on, I think I’ve got the 1970s typing textbook stuffed on a shelf here somewhere.

I would have thought the other way around for sincerely and faithfully. Why would you be faithful to a stranger? No wonder I never knew which one to use. I think that is why I just go with “Thanks”…

Oh, always start with “Dear” for a formal letter. It’s called the “Complimentary closing”. I can’t find the right page in the textbook though. May have to resort to the interwebs for the etiquette.

Normally, I go with “Hi”…
Because I often have various people in my cc list in different parts of the world, I’ve taken to starting with “Good day”.
I mean the salutation and sign off is obviously adaptable to the situation.. formal for strangers, less formal when it starts becoming a conversation, personal to friends etc…
and to the forum..
in texts the conventions also change… unless you are Captain Raymond Holt, most people don’t put their name at the bottom of a text to someone known to them…
here it changes too… rarely people (apart from Cymek) make a greeting, sign off (no need I see who is posting the comment at the top) or say goodbye (unless they are part of a current conversation, or they are transition)
still almost noting goes wrong with conversations here.

Because if he admitted that he’s Swedish, everyone would simply dismiss him immediately as a nutter.

Conspiracy theorists like conspiracy theories because they find it rather reassuring that someone somewhere at least has a plan. Not a plan that they like, obviously, but a plan nonetheless.
Preferable to the idea/reality that no-one is in control, and it’s all just a haphazard mess.

I have met a few conspiracy theorists, and anecdotal evidence would suggest they are all nutcases and/or have reduced mental capacity in some form or another.
An elderly relative, for example was always one of the most critical thinkers I knew and was always a smart bloke. Now that he’s in his ’80’s, I can see his mental capacity decrease and his conspiracy theory rhetoric increase. Ironically, his ability to accept new ideas has pretty much deserted him.

There’s been a fair bit of shuffling of priorities during the re-branding, but it’s based on the same books.

Some of them have realism attached to them.
Government/business would try to get exclusive deals with ET’s to acquire knowledge and technology and most likely do almost anything requested or required.
Though it would not make a lot of sense to hide it if they did have it and continue down the road we are on with outdated technology if you had something far better

This is claimed to be a bruise Scott Morrisson got from banging his finger with a hammer:

I was a Chippy by accident, and I’ve hit a lot of fingers with a lot of hammers, but none of them ever looked even the slightest bit like that. Did he colour in his finger with a Texta?

Hmmmn. Don’t think I’ve ever done one like that before. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever really whacked by other hand with a hammer. I tend to make sure my other hand is well clear before I start hard swinging.

Rainbow cake traditionally has the chocolate layer on the bottom, and I think the pink is in the middle and the plain on top. With chocolate butter cream icing, waved with a fork. (Well, the three layer one from Herbert Adams from my childhood did. Googling shows me that people have now gone all fancy schmancy with the bright food colorings now available and they make 5 and 7 layer ones) Don’t know if that is relevent.

in this case, how someone, or a group of people may present themselves as Argentinian, but they’re German ‘on the inside’ Perhaps with attitudes, loyalties, and/or opinions that are close to what we expect are those held by German people.

I do not recall anyone saying not to wear masks. I do recall the advice that good hygiene, social distancing and good manners are very effective and masks were only a small part of protection. This is still true. The reason masks were made compulsory in Victoria was that people failed rather badly on the social distancing bit.

don’t know about all the others but whilst “not recommended” might not sound like “you will be arrested for doing so” to us, it certainly doesn’t sound like “probably helpful, even if a little, so go ahead” (but free country, yada yada, so yeah, they might have meant go ahead)

Nobody was saying not to wear masks, but they were (legitimately) worried about running out of masks for the health system if they told everyone to go out and buy masks.

Look at what happened with the panic buying over bog rolls. Wouldn’t want the same thing happening with facemasks.
Ginny Forbes
Imagine being Bill Gates right now.
You spend 30 years of your life and $50 billion of your own dollars supporting humanitarian causes. You directly save hundreds of thousands of lives in South East Asia by providing anti malaria netting to half of a continent, you drop infant mortality rates throughout the entire developing world by funding vaccine programs including vaccinating 40,000,000 children for polio, and, amongst a plethora of philanthropic endeavors, you fund free educational platforms like Khan Academy so people can have free access to high quality education.
Then after donating half of your wealth to charity and pledging 90% of the remainder to charity in your will..
Arguably doing more to better life on earth for humanity than any other human being to ever live.
You then hop on the internet only to find a million scientifically illiterate fucking imbeciles that are using the very computers you pretty much invented in the first place to call you a child murdering arch villian antichrist because they watched a YouTube video made by some other yokel with the comprehension of a fucking potato.

fair shot we guess that’s where privatisation of health systems ends, you’d think that something like a government that is able to print money and give people hundreds of thousands of millions of dollars for not working would be able to fund a mask buyout or at least set prices on some of these things (which is, incidentally, what buying up the stock would naturally do, even if we believe only in Free Market Forces In The Economy Must Grow) but hey

Except he didn’t really invent any software either.
More of a developer and marketer than an inventor.
arguable but sure, same could be said for many of the early technology entrepreneur-inventors

I don’t believe Microsoft did anything groundbreaking – they adapted/stole DOS, then adapted/stole Sun Microsystems’ WIMP software, then could afford lawyers and the ability to buy any software their OS was lacking.

More than just mooting, they have introduced a bill to the HoC which allows the Minister to unilaterally breach 3 areas of law. The Good Friday Agreement, the EU Withdrawal Agreement, and the Sevel Convention. The first two are international treaties and should require the agreement of the other parties before any changes, the last is the agreed terms between how the HoC deals with the powers of the devolved parliaments.
I reckon it’s going to end in a dismissal.

Ooh, they’re red, white and blue
And when the band plays “Hail to the chief”
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate one, no
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don’t they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no millionaire’s son, no
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate one, no
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, “How much should we give?”
Ooh, they only answer “More! More! More!” yoh
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no military son, son
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate one, one

There’s a long history of conflict between the artists and politicians over songs used at political rallies:
https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-lists/stop-using-my-song-35-artists-who-fought-politicians-over-their-music-75611/gretchen-peters-vs-sarah-palin-30117/
And trump is far from the first to make stupid mistakes:
https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/american-presidential-campaign-songs-have-backfired-candidates-a6883811.html
I wonder why they don’t use conservative-leaning songs.
Maybe they all suck.

Oregon resident wonders ‘What else could go wrong?’
For people already enduring the coronavirus pandemic, the resulting economic fallout and political tensions evident in the Black Lives Matter protests and far-right counter protests, the fires added a new layer of misery.
From a population of 4.2 million, Oregon has seen more than 29,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and more than 500 deaths.
Protests have been ongoing in the city in response to the death of George Floyd back in May, and escalated last month with the arrival of a caravan of Trump supporters.
An antifa supporter also shot a member of a right-wing group.
Now, about 500,000 Oregonians are under evacuation warnings or orders to leave.
“What’s next? You have the protests, coronavirus pandemic, now the wildfires. What else can go wrong?” lamented Danielle Oliver, 40, of Happy Valley, south-east of Portland.

Australia has several species, there are even three around Esperance and this property. I discovered the Esperance extension of the Migratory Locust much to the surprise of the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment in Canberra who rang me each year to check if they were still here. They are a resident species, but never develop past the grasshopper stage. They need specific environmental conditions to reach the locust stage and even some of their body parts then change shape. They are quite a large grasshopper and survive into winter before dying off.
The Yellow-wing Locust is the most common and continuously rise from the ground through summer as you walk along.

Noice.
I remember Boppa and myself being conned into working the weekend to design and build a PCB for one of the bosses – board was designed and built, and a temporary model number was etched into the board – BFS-001 – which was later adopted as the official part number and entered into the inventory system for customers to order.
“BFS” was an initialism for “Bob Fucking Smith” (Name has been changed to protect the privacy of the boss). We ended up telling the company’s owner who thought it was a great laugh, but I am unsure if Bob was ever informed.
