At least one rider will have to withdraw from the tour because of the Covids, either catching it himself or by breaking curfew.

Stage four could be one for Richie. Mountain-top finish after 7.1km @ 6.7% sounds right for Porte.

Anti-cyclist troll from social media stumbles onto Le Tour channel on free-to-air:

Have I mentioned before that RuleKidOne went over and followed Le Tour in a hired van a couple of years ago? After watching it for years, he was deeply disappointed to discover what can only be described as an extremely poor tourism experience. Really, crushingly, stupendously, bad. Poor kid just wasn’t ready for overt rudeness and dismissal from people in service industries, wild over-promise and under-deliverery in tourism-related businesses, bald-faced lies and fraud from the van hire company*, and so on.
France can go on the list, in his opinion.

Yes. I recall you mentioning he was over there, but not the details of his experience of it.
Apparently it is called “Paris Syndrome”, and the Japanese tourists suffer from it. They go over there with all sorts of expectations about how civilised and cultured the place will be, only to get such a rude culture shock in the reality that they pack it in and return home after one or two days.

The Cowboys

The journey takes the men to some far-off and unsettling places in what begins to feel like an endless quest. His sense of mission is exacerbated by the events of 9/11, which happen more than half a decade after his daughter runs off.

We just don’t do towns and villages in the same way as they do in Europe.
I guess we don’t need to, lots more space and we build to suit modern technology. But some of these are places are quaint and have a certain charm.

Richie’s never going to win the Tour.
He’s in fourth, with a chance of third. That’s just fucking excellent.
Take it from me, with my ancient eastern European fortune-telling genes. Richie will never win the Tour.

So where’s Ritchie? They wouldn’t shut up about him last night.
Hiding in le peloton, getting as much rest as possible. Richie wins races by riding up hills, and to a lesser extent individual time trials. This stage is junk kilometres to him.
Caleb Ewen, the other Aussie, has a pretty good chance of winning the stage in a sprint at the finish.

I agree, he in all likelihood never will. But third or fourth is still a fantastic, fantastic result.
….. and what’s happened to #trolldj ?
Richie doesn’t start until 01:08, if my calculations are any good.

You weren’t far off, Mr 303. Smack on, in fact. 🚲
Richie is go.
Richie appears to be doing well.
This is all rather exciting.

Very rare for it to be this close.
Richie looks like he’s the second aussie ever on to the podium.

WooohooooO!
Well that’s it then.
I’m off to bed.
I’m just worried that the result for Pogacar is just a bit too good. I’m thinking back to Floyd Landis.
11:25 start in the normal states tonight. Might need a bit of a nanna nap.

The only year I’ve ever bothered with the final stage was 2011 :)

Two King Island cheeses, Victorian salami & kabanos, beetroot water crackers, Langhome Creek SGM.
Go Richie!

Yeah, I’ve just put some blue and some parmesan on a plate, poured a glass of red and have an Abbotsford also on the go.
Diet can start next week :)

Yep.
The old “Fast after LEMB” used to be the curse of the non-urgent surgical patient, because the buggers would starve you until the surgical roster ran out of time, so all you got was tea and toast at 06:00 to last you until dinner.
You might recall me posting about the work being done on the impact of food in the gut of the general surgical patient a few years ago. I haven’t looked at it since, but the fasted patient was more likely to die, suffer complications, needed more therapy & took longer to recover.

What did they book you for? MRI with contrast, or something? I don’t think you can die of that.

just an ultrasound… also probably not deadly… depending on what they find though, we might be having a snooze… if it’s glass (unlikely) – it’ll be an immediate and long snooze and there goes the holiday… if it’s gall stones – it’ll be a keyhole surgery (I have no idea what anaesthesia they use for that) but I’ll be asking for a some decent pain relief until after we get back.. if it’s something else I’ll be watching the rest of Le Tour from an as yet undetermined location.
Do you like how I turned that back to topic?

Yeah OK. Well… I’m sure you’re going to be fine, fast or no fast.
I know how much Westralians like to maintain a different time, border, and self-perception to the rest of us, but not even Gina could change the fact that Le Tour ends tonight.

Just watching the footage of Dayo Quintana hitting the bidon and decking out. I seriously reckon if you drop a bidon on the road you should get immediate DQ.
Obviously, a rider should be able to bunny hop them, but how is someone like Quintana supposed to focus on that shit when he’s high af?
Cyclist Daniel Oss withdraws from Tour de France after breaking neck in high-speed crash with fan
CNN)Cyclist Daniel Oss has been forced to retire from this year’s Tour de France with a broken neck after he collided with spectators.
The Team TotalEnergies rider crashed into fans at high speed while they were lined up along a cobbled street during Stage 5 between Lille and Arenberg.
Footage shows Oss getting knocked off balance after clipping one fan before colliding with another who is leaning out to film the race on a phone.
