Subject: siege mentality, what is it, really

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_mentality

think about this subject quite often, influence of some aspects of media perhaps (of politics also) driving it, fostering it, accommodating it

of course there’s the difficulty of distinguishing legitimate forces or counter forces involved in political and social movements from, what, could be more a siege mentality, or individuals recruited for, if you will, or individuals that are attracted to. Not sure that would be an easy thing to distinguish, always

anyway, to the characteristics or attributes of a siege-mentality-proper, waywardness, irrationality perhaps, how would that be defined

lot of movies have siege as large part of the theme, TV news

doesn’t seem to me to be a trajectory of greater civilization if siege dominates, so i’m thinking it’s largely an ideological device, a hook of sorts

It’s by far the easiest way to keep the cast list small. Saves on production costs.

I need to look up what you mean by siege mentality.

> Siege mentality is a shared feeling of victimisation and defensiveness

Oh, I see now, I call it shared paranoia.

We need less television that shows the few fighting off an impossibly huge monster armies as super heroes.
We need more real reality TV like Craig Reucassel’s https://iview.abc.net.au/show/fight-for-planet-a-our-climate-challenge

Kneeject reaction. The title “fight-for-planet-a-our-climate-challenge” is a perfect example of siege mentality.

I reject your kneeject.

The essence of action on climate change is that everybody needs to make small changes for the benefit of everybody, not a few fighting off a huge monster to save their tribe.

Yep it is too.
The reality is slightly different.

That’s what I meant by the reality being different.
