I have always had problems with filter masks.
My lungs may not be good enough.

That’s what I use. Fire brigade issue masks with the valve blocked from the inside.

The ones that are properly rated (they will have N90, N95, or N99, or P1, P2, P3 on them) are tested for air flow resistance as part of the certification process. If that doesn’t work for you, there’s canister masks with large filters, or even positive-pressure air supplied masks. Should all be fairly easy to get your paws on.

Be not afraid..
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
Any mask with significant back-pressure – directs all the airflow around the edges – which wouldn’t stop spit.
That “surgical mask” is hopeless. The only good point is that it directs sneezes sideways instead of vertically.
