Well with the fantastic wet season we had and the gorgeous warm weather, the season has started to change; the days are getting shorter and the air is cooler and somewhat drier. It is as if we have seen the last of the wet season rains. (If TC Ului is reading this then yadda yadda),

But there are still plenty of things to see in Mangolia and still plenty of life; lets start with the Fungi…

now i understand why GF’s fish is upside down LOL.
i went to a film screening at the only planetarium in adelaide last week. the film was called ‘ future memory’ and was shot for – and screened on – the dome of the planetarium ceiling. everything looks like you’re looking at it thru a glass ceiling. this shot would have been right at home there.
btw the dragonfly and other shots are great too.

Grubs have overtaken a lot of our plants while we were away. I’ve never seen them in such proportions. Must have something to do with the very wet season. Even the broad leaf carpet grass is chewed right back to the stalks. The couch is full of lawn grub. Many shrubs are laden with grasshoppers in various shapes and sizes. Just glad that most will survive this attack, I hope.

You have solved a problem for me. I don’t think of grasshoppers as sheding therefore I couldn’t understand why all these grassy casings were lying around the ground. I thought I had killed them and the ants had eaten out their innards. Don’t laugh.

Each evening at the beach (an island) we used to watch the bats fly from the mainland over the water to feed on something that grew on our island. They flew very low over our house so we got a good look. I started to count them in their threes and fours but gave up after 50 or so. All a new experience for me.

Thanks Everyone, and thanks Teleost for the id, The Yellow Honeyeaters were all over this plant before it flowered, but haven’t touched it since?!?!? I saw one at the Bot Gardens the other day but the name plate was busted, and I cannot seem to find my Bot Gardens Map around the place….

The Red plant I first thought was a Kunzea of sorts, its a shrubby plant currently to about 3metres in height and 4 or 5 metres across. I have since found another one and it has been pruned, upon discovery this plant suckers vigourously and I may not be able to get rid of it, so control it will have to be.

Yeah, I’ve seen Big Salties in PNG on the Bensbach River and some over at Karumba, but this one was only a few hundred yards away from houses, in Suburbia on the banks of the Ross River.

Was only a Freshie eh but, but a big one!

Percy was cool, we were riding along the River and he was in my backpack of course, and he spotted it first… He says “Hey PM, Crocodile on the Rocks!” Now I’m thinking this must be a new Cocktail he’s discovered, but sure enough, the first Croc I have seen in Townsville.

Nah, the kids swim in the River all the time and it is only a Freshie, but the biggest Freshwater Croc I have seen. Seen a few in Farms and such. Will send the picture to the local paper and see if it gets a mention. Right near a Rowing Club.

We used to go skiing on a lake south of Darwin.

One of the circuits I hit a stick, fortunately didn’t fall over. Next time round the stick had a slice across its head and was a dead freshie!

OK then you keep that Percy close at all times so that he can give you ample warning when you encounter something as dangerous as a crocodile next time.

Been experimenting with resizing photos into squares. Now I often see images as photosize, ie rectangular and every now and then I re-think some of my images by squaring them up. And today I thought I’d introduce some colour onto the forum and voila, some squared bits of colour for youse all…. enjoy!

A waterlilly leaf with dew drops and a blue damselfly.

‘tis a pity somewhat, because I crop and resize so it is a neat little parcel for this ‘ere forum, I lose quite a bit of clarity and definition. The original raw version in its full entirety is very sharp indeed, all those little stamens are crystal clear… but I like the colour.
